I'm off to Afghanistan next week and to treat myself when I get back I've just booked a trip to Sawgrass in June next year.

Just played my last round before I go and I think it was one of the best I've played this year. A 3 over 72 in howling wind! Just one double bogey on a par 3 let me down.

Anyway, here's to a golf free 6 months!!!

Not sure about the individual greenfee but the whole trip is £1295 with Your Golf Travel. Thats 7 nights room only at the 5* Sawgrass Marriot, 4 rnds (Inc 2 on the Stadium course), and flights from MAN to Orlando with Virgin.

Just looking into a hire car for the week, might add about £100 each onto it.

not really, there's no where to practice and the ground is just hard and rocky. I took a swing trainer out with me last time but I was so busy that I hardly used it, all my down time was spent sleeping, or sunbathing, or in the gym.

I'm thinking about that 17th already! We're playing it twice so we can have 2 bashes at it!

Yeah Iraq is a bit better for the sand. Especially where most of the Brits were based. Quite open desert near Basra Airport.

In the greenzone in Helmand though it's different altogether, more dirt than sand. Hard, sun baked dirt.

Looks like a fantastic deal when you break it down. Looking at about 600 for Room alone and price of flight around 400...so getting the golf for 300 is bargain for the courses being played.
