Saw this and thought it was amazing....

That is incredable. I think they are trying to play it down a bit to stop people thinking they have a cure for spinal damage when it is only a partial cure at the moment. It is a massive step forward and could save the lives of people with spinal damage in the neck were breathing is a struggle.

I make that pretty ground breaking news, surely now that they've proved it can be done they can find the science to bring that to the human skeletal structure.

Of 34 pet dogs on the proof of concept trial, 23 had the cells transplanted into the injury site - the rest were injected with a neutral fluid.

What is the need to inject dogs with a placebo? Am I being stupid and missing something?

Dunno.... to make sure it's the cells doing the work and not the injection process itself perhaps triggering something???? Maybe they just have to as part of the licencing process? (due diligence and all that)

Some would call it a miracle... we might see people upping out of their wheelchairs in just a few years... astonishing.

You need to have a control group to confirm that other factors weren't causing the dogs to recover

I understand the need for a control group, but unless the act of stabbing a dog with a needle can aid recovery, I just thought it was odd to give placebos bearing in mind they are only psychological. Unless that is, dogs are intelligent enough to know they're being treated and can think they should be getting better?

Back to the OP, yes it is truly amazing what science can do nowadays though.
