Had a interesting chat with work mate in van today when bored.

What age do u tell ya kid your sorry its a lie??

Reason I ask is sister takin hers to Lapland in a few weeks. One is almost 10 other is 5 I think. I'm not sure if the eldest knows but plays along for the youngest benefit.

I asked him about his son but Since divorcing his ex became a Jehovah's Witness and promptly told his son at 5its not real. His son is now 9but wants To believe in fear of not getting gifts. His son asked him and he told him Xmas spirit is alive and we all make of it what we want and Santa is alive in everyone.

I don't have kids so just wondered how parents go about this subject with there littleuns?

I'm sorry, what??!!

In all honesty, when they start to question it properly (i reckon that will be around 8-10 for my daughter). but i have 3, so will ensure the older one does not spoil it for the younger ones. We are very straight up with our kids. Things and people die etc, none of this glossing over mumbo jumbo.

I never tell kids, I just take show them this :mmm:.

It's better in the long run, they'll thank you one day.

Slime.

If they need to ask then in all probability they already know.
Its nice to keep the magic going for as long as possible, but thats not so easy these days.
They seam to grow up so much more quickly than when i was a nipper :(...

My daughter is 9 and still believes.

She had a tooth fall out a couple of weeks ago and left a note with questions on (like what is your name, where do you live etc) and a pen under her pillow with her tooth.

Bless.

My eldest was about 7. He told me he knew but would continue to "believe" for the sake of his younger brother to keep the magic alive. My youngest was 8/9 when he decided it was a ruse.

I would say it's when they start at middle school and mix with older kids. The homework-ladened soul-destroyed pre-high school generation just want to ruin it for the younger kids.
