Sanding Greens

Sanding greens is 'standard' maintenance and has several benefits as per the article shown in the link.

What you have to do is meet with the Head Greenkeeper and convince him/her that it is worth delaying their program a few days in order to allow comps to be played with pretty good greens,

At a previous club, Monthly Medals (and these could only played in Summer) were played in the first week of any month (scheduled by the Competition Committee) and guess when hollow-tining and other serious 'damage' to the greens was scheduled by the Greenkeepers! One of my 'successes' was to get (one of the 2) Greenkeepers to delay their maintenance until after the Medals.

I played at Crowborough yesterday and the greens are really coming on now, although having said that they have recently been "verticut"....I think that is the term.
Last time I played there (due to work and bad weather) was in early April, and the greens were a disgrace really. I was pleasantly surprised with the condition of them yesterday. Give it another week for the "slits" to heal and they should be just about spot on. The recent wet weather we have had has really helped the course, the fairways are nice and lush too.
But I was really worried about the greens for a while there.

definitely the worst spring conditions for greens for a long while Smiffy. I was reading the Nevill's greens report last week and the course manager had clearly been through the same hell (with members and weather) that our's had! Reads like a Perfect Storm in terms of the various elements and timing!

Walton Heath suffered too, however for some courses (notably the less natural sand based builds like Westerham and Chart Hills) came through it all in excellent condition.

Ours have been scarified and top dressed last week and they are in great to putt on.
