does anyone else find that there sand wedge has not got enough loft for in sand? I have been using a lob wedge in there. I do not like opening club face as i blade them a lot then. What would be the ideal bounce for a bunker?

56 degree, 12 bounce. I find my lob wege digs in too much. I only use my lob wedge in the bunker if there's not a lot of sand.

Where do you position the ball when you're in the bunker? Do you have the shaft leaning left/right/vertical?

Depends on the type/depth of sand you have in your bunkers. I have 3 wedges that I swop in and out of my bag currently using a 60deg with 8 bounce as not a great deal of sand in bunkers at my home course when they refill next year I will use my 58 with 12 Bounce and mid season 58 and 8 bounce. If it rains and compacts the sand back to my 60deg.

Put my 58 loft, 10 bounce away for a Mizuno 60 degree (tweaked to 61) with 5 bounce. I play that better than any sand wedge I have every had. I can really hit hard at the sand an inch or so behind the ball and the ball flops out. Takes a few practice sessions to get used to hitting so hard but the results are great and the added bonus is that you also have a lob wedge in the same club.

Have a lesson on bunker play

I use a 60 as like to use the bounce and splash it out. Thats green side of course so 50 plus yards out its time to consider other clubs...but to be honest as the man says its all about the sand depth and thickness... You should be able to use any club in the sand if you know how so suggest a few hours in a bunker experimenting or catch a few lessons... confidence, acceleration and follow thorough are all key. Good luck

Can't argue with that.

I find quite the opposite to the OP actually. Sometimes I have a tendancy to open the face too much. The club slides under the ball, pops out of the bunker but goes nowhere.

Last night, I used my gap wedge (52°) to get out of a greenside bunker. Mainly due to the fact my ball had plugged and looked like a fried egg  .

Got the ball out to 8ft giving me a chance to save par. Missed the putt walked off with bogey.

Normally I'll use my 58° wedge from sand as it has higher bounce (10°) than my gap wedge (7°) and open the face a fraction if required.

As Bob says. If you're struggling, get a lesson.

I use a 56* for greenside, 52* for any long bunker shots though, such as a greens length. If I try to whallop a 56 out a bunker it tends to go wrong.

Bunker tip #1 is "sky and sand"- Steep takeaway, shallow approach.
