S-l-o-o-w greens!

Don't buy into this "can't putt on slow greens" malarky. Play less break and give it a firmer stroke.

I can't. Hitting it harder isn't really the solution either as you can't get any consistency. When the greens are so slow that putting becomes a game of power, I frankly lose interest.

We had a Stableford comp this morning and the greens were really slow again. Don't think I got any long putts up to the hole, and my playing partner left a number of downhill putts way short. Normally on our greens you only have to touch downhill putts to get them to the hole, but not today. Everyone I have spoken to has commented on the slowness of the greens. Beyond a certain degree of slowness, I find putting quite difficult. Hope they cut the greens before my next round on Tuesday. Scored 33 points btw, with 2 three-putts and 2 shanked chip shots!

I think we have now established you don't like slow greens

i hate to be the bearer of bad news but winter i approaching so the greens are going to get slower - either you will need to get used to them or keep on leaving them short

taking the club way inside (common fault) on small chips can do this

Move the position of the hole in your head.
Keep your stroke the same, leaving them 3 feet short all the time - imagine the hole 3 foot beyond where it is and putt to that. Result should be the ball at least gets to the hole.
(Equally if you are rapping them beyond on faster than your usual greens then pick a point short of the hole.)
This can help you stop 'hitting' but just stroking a 'longer' putt.

Our greens can still be pretty quick in Winter, but not just now for some reason! :mmm:

Do you see that liquid that keeps regulary dropping from the sky - plus the warm temps that we keep getting achieve a few things for a golf course and indeed grass as whole

I'm rubbish at adapting to different green speeds.
When putts are dropping for me, it's because the green speed coincidentally is the speed that works for me.
Relying on the greens adapting, rather than me, is not the way that my putting is going to improve!

I've just had a quick practice session on the chipping green. Think the problem was more that I was rolling my wrists too much in the takeaway and losing the angle between my arms and the club shaft. :)

Our greens were painfully slow today but still managed a decent 32 putts. It wasn't the putting it was the getting to the green in the first place. Less break and a committed stroke. Rolled it well including a cheeky 20 footer for birdie on our tricky 3rd

Played on some slow greens today at Hampton Court, and adapted really quickly. Started slowly, with two 3-putts, but after that improved immensely, and quite enjoyed the slower pace of them, felt more control.

I don't really like lightning fast greens either, because downhill putts can then become a nightmare! There is a range of green speeds that I feel comfortable on. Couldn't tell you what the Stimpmeter readings are, but medium to fast. :)

There isn't really much you do like about golf is there?:rofl:
I enjoy the company, the scenery, the fresh air, the exercise, striping drives down the middle, well struck iron shots, and putts that drop into the hole. I don't enjoy ridiculously fast, slow or bumpy greens and slow play!
