Last Thursday I had one of my best ever tee-to green ball striking rounds in a Seniors Stableford competition. Unfortunately, due to the very wet conditions, I don't think the greens had been cut or rolled, or the holes re-cut, for a couple of days. They were very soft, bumpy and worst of all, players' feet had left doughnut shaped depressions around the holes which left them looking like mini versions of Mount Etna. They were extremely putt repelling! I had 4 three putts and only 1 single putt in my round, so 39 putts in total. I had several par or birdie putts that looked in all the way, only to stop half an inch short of the hole or deflect away in the last few inches. My score was 85 for 34 points, which earned me 4th place in the comp and a £10 voucher.
The next morning I played complete rubbish in a friendly round, but the course had dried out enough to allow the greens to be cut and lightly rolled, and new holes cut. This time I had no three-putts and 5 single putts, so 31 putts in a total of 90.
If only I could have combined my first round tee-to-green play with my second round putting, I could have scored 77, which would have been my best round ever! :mmm:
