RVP saga

So we (Arsenal), sell our best player to our biggest rivals and then, according to some reports, add an agreement that the fee will increase if they win trophies and titles with RvP on board.

This just shows how the current Arsenal board lacks any ambition or credibility - no wonder RvP wanted to leave and how long before the likes of Walcott and Wiltshire will be on their way?

Walcott may yet go next week. We won't give him 100k per week (correctly, as he isn't that good), and we still need to balance the books. Song may also go.

To me, neither (or both) of these players would be any great loss.

If RVP is crocked next season, people will call selling him genius, if he isn't people will call it madness.

From what I have read, his contract demands to Arsenal were insane, and Arsenal had no choice but to sell him. It's just a pity the Juve deal fell through.

Murph.

Would you say Arsenal are becoming a bit of a selling club these days?

Looking at recent history - Henry, Adibayor, Van Persie, Fabregas, Clichy, Nasri, Arshavin, Bendtner (Is he still on loan?) to name a few.

Do you think this is player/agent driven I.E Greed or the club being inflexible with contract and wage structures?

Jeez, where so I start.

In short, yes we are a selling club. Mainly because we have no money. Zip. Nadda.

Reasons for this are pretty simple. We still have a stadium to pay for, the other property sales didn't generate the revenue predicted, and we pay our players too much.

Too many bit part players are on 60k plus a week, so we can't pay the supposed stars that much more. On the other hand, how do you know the player you have developed is a star, until some one else offers mega bucks and it's too late. Is Walcott worth more than Podolski, or Cazorla? I don't think so. should Ox cart chamber pot be paid 80k to keep him from leaving? What if he flops? What if he doesn't? Tough decision, and when Wenger gets it wrong (Denilson?) then he gets caned.

We need to clear 20m on player sales per year to service the stadium debt. Apparently.

But then which players have left?

Hleb - done nothing since going to Barca
Henry - had to leave as his wife caught him messing about with other women
Viera - had the best from him
Cesc - was always going back to Barca at some point, regardless
Nasri - half a good season, and he was off. Was annoymous when he was needed most
Clichy - not that good any way.
Adebayor - total scum bag, glad to see the back of

Bendy and Arshavin are still there as they earn too much to off load them.

Ok, Clichy and Nasri have won stuff since leaving, but they are hardly crucial players to City. Henry won stuff, but he was past his best when he left. Anelka paid for London colney. Most of them haven't set the world on fire since leaving.

United sold Ronaldo. Selling club?

I regret Wiltord leaving.

I think arsenal could have real trouble getting champions league football in the 2013/2014 season unless they invest all the money from rvp back into the team

Can hardly be considered a sound long term investment for Man U. Its either a utterly selfish move by Fergie or a gift to him from Man U for his years of service that they hope will allow him to bow out as champions. As far as their characters go, Fergie and RVP are on collision course from day one, the former being a dictator the latter being a mardie ar$e. See it all ending in tears of joy for City.

I'm disappointed he's gone, but the reality of it is that footballers are no different to us in terms of doing a job for a company that they want to work for. Like me, they'll work out a contract that suits them, whether it's money, trophies or whatever that seals the deal for them. I thought Robin Van Biscuit had more integrity and was a true gooner, but he needs to do what he needs to do for his own reasons.

In terms of the club, I think we got a good deal, we bought him for peanuts, he has indeed spent the majority of his Arsenal career on the sickbed and at 29 is not going to stay fit and healthy all year. 24 million is good business, I think the transfers in of Poldi, Giroud and Santi will please us all once the season is under way, and I wouldn't rule out a couple more, especially if Song and/ or Walcott go too. I'm over it already.

A lot of what happens at the Arsenal puzzles me but like the numpty I am I'll carry on supporting them...

Seen more European football than most...

Not fussed if Walcott goes but would prefer Song staying on...

RvP has had his one good year... Sorry to see him go but at 29 he's got to look for the best pay days he can find...

Being a Blackburn Rovers I have no real room to talk of squad quality. But what amazed me is Arsenal pay Walcott a shed load of £'s for at best being a sprinter that can sometimes (and I mean sometimes) deliver what is at best a half decent ball. Yet when Junior Hoillett left us and can't blame him for that, the 2 main interested parties were Borussia Monchengladbach & QPR.

Now to me (maybe biased) Hoillett is a far superior winger to Walcott, yet Theo is coveted by other big clubs as he happens to play for Arsenal, yet most Arsenal fans I know would happily drive him to another club if a decent bid came in.

Plus selling RVP for £24million at the age of 29, isn't that a good thing based on his injury record and that the chance of him getting better or adapting his game into his 30's isn't highly likely.

Now where was I have we signed the mighty Simon Cox yet, at least I may see a few more games now for a lower cost in the championship.

It's not the fact they might go that bothers me, it's the impression that it gives that Arsenal don't have any ambition. How are we to attract the better players we need to build a side capable of wining the premiership?

It appears that the board are happy with a top four finish and nothing more.

Fader, Division 2(I'm old!!) or whatever it's called - it's the future.
Our teams may even win the odd game this season.

Guessing your a Bolton boy then greg. I'm actually glad in a way that were in the championship, we need a rebuild we had to many overpaid hasbeens or neverbeens on our books, with the odd decent youngster in amongst them. Glad the Yaks gone off to China or wherever he's milking money from. Hoping we can pick up some points and at least get a shot at the playoffs this year for a thrill.

It's hard for me living down in kent to get to many games, but I blame my parents for moving me here when I was younger. I try to get to the away games in London, and back up to Ewood twice a year at least if I can.

Sad news about Farice Muamba, but has to do whats right for his family, and hopefully he can stay in football in someway.

Couldn't agree more Fader.
I hope we're rebuilding but suspect a lot of fans want an instant return to spending money we ain't got and getting whacked 4 and 5 every week.(That could still happen this season!)
Expecting Muamba to play again was hoping for too much.
He's done well just to be walking amongst us.

I love posts from fans criticising players for leaving and insinuating that because the club has stuck by them when they have been laid off with injuries he should have showed a bit of loyalty.

There is no such thing as loyalty in football.

What planet do folk live on..............it's 2012 not 1972.

Not a perfect example but Steven Gerrard?

Otherwise Matt Le Tissier. Not many I agree with you Dodger, and we had our eyes opened with Torres, but there is still the odd one about.

The bottom line is that I want to win trophies with Arsenal, not with anybody else. I know you can win trophies in many countries and in many ways, but I want to do that in our way and in an Arsenal shirt.
‘I’m sure I could win things at another team in another country, but would it feel like our trophy, my trophy? I’m not sure it would. Anything we win here will come from the heart and that’s what I want. It’s my dream and I see no point in speaking about other teams when I have these dreams. I think other people know that about me; I’m just hungry to win with Arsenal and that’s it – Robin van Persie, February 2011
?

That was before he had a complete season his agent told him he could get 220 a week
but hey ho fotballers are the same as us if someone offered you a huge pay rise you'd take it .

It's the fans that are loyal not players
