Rules of Handicapping

Presumably jim8flog is referring to winter handicaps?

If so our handicap conveyor has advised me that Scottish Golf will have a system for clubs to run internal winter handicaps.

This has previously been done at our club using HDID without updating our CONGU/CDH record.

Even though our course will be shorter I’m also presuming that slope rating for full course will be used as the distance differences will be the same for all and the handicap changes won’t affect play at other courses - an£ well be back onto WHS ‘real’ handicap once next season starts.

I did query - one of - the major difference being that the central computer will calculate WHS as opposed to club calculating CSS but didn’t get a definitive answer

AS per Yandabrown

I was referring to the fact that they will not be using rounding of the Course Handicap before playing allowance is calculated.

Thanks for that.

Hopefully it will mean something to me when the WHS comes in. Not a word from our club to date about it so tbh I have no idea what impact what you are pointing out will have on me and my regular weekend golf here in Scotland.

Don't worry about it. If you're playing in a medal you'll be recording and submitting your gross scores as before and leaving the computer system to work out the competition results on the basis of your unrounded Course Handicap multiplied by the Handicap Allowance of 95%. When you get your course handicap from a chart or an app it will be a full number and that's what you'll use when playing a round to know where you receive strokes and when you can pick up in a stableford or when returning a general play score (formerly a supplementary).

The handicap allowances are solely used to achieve fairness for competition purposes. They play no part in handicapping calculations.
