This incident happened in a fourball better ball matchplay game today. The match had finish but one of the guys wanted to know the ruling on the following.

A player from team A missed a putt,in his frustration he slammed his putter on the green. this left an indent in the green which was on the line of a player from team b. should there a ruling. The guy from team b said it would have been loss of hole if the match was still in progress. cheers

Player from team B was entitled to repair any damage on his line caused by player from Team A before putting.
Don't believe there is a penalty for player A although clearly it wasn't good etiquette.

I think Mr Angry on Team A should have conceded the hole due to bad etiquette and ungentlemanly conduct  ;)

Agreed, just like Justin Leonard should have conceded Olazabal's putt on the 17th green at Brookline when his teammates ran all over his line in a ive match.

No penalty, although the other guy needs a kick up the you know what. There is a rule in golf which concerns deliberately interfering with an opponents line or stroke, and that carries a DQ, but would have to be applied by the Committee.

Agree with Ethan, no penalty. Also, I don't think you can repair it as it isn't a ball mark or old hole etc. Personally I would claim the hole and report the facts to the committee if there was any objection. Sounds like "serious breach of etiquette" to me.

Damage can be repaired, or even relief taken if the damage is not repairable:

16-1a/13 Line of Putt Damaged Accidentally by Opponent, Fellow-Competitor or Their Caddies

Q. An opponent, fellow-competitor or one of their caddies accidentally steps on and damages the player's line of putt. What is the ruling?

A. There is no penalty. Rule 1-2 is not applicable.
In equity (Rule 1-4), the player may have the line of putt restored to its original condition. The player is entitled to the lie and line of putt he had when his ball came to rest. The line of putt may be restored by anyone.
If it is not possible to restore the line of putt, the player would be justified in requesting the Committee to grant relief. If the damage is severe enough, the Committee may declare the area to be ground under repair, in which case the competitor may take relief under Rule 25-1b(iii).

Notwithstanding all of the above, surely if the match is no longer in progress there is no line of putt(?).
