Royal Liverpool GC

There may be better courses around but I think that's missing the point.....to play the day after with the stands up, same pins, must have been brilliant. Sounds like an absolutely fantastic day. One of the best prizes I've seen and all I can really say is ... you lucky, lucky ******d!!!

I said pretty much the same things as you in my second paragraph. However you are right and in hindsight my comments weren't appropriate for this thread.

Apologies OP if it appears I was trying to rain on your parade. That wasn't my intention. Sounds like you had a great day and great experience.

Pretty certain! I was referring to the Open's 18th as the Member's 1st - a dogleg around the (OB) practice ground. Memorable because my drive was absolutely on the end of the dogleg and dead centre of the fairway! It went somewhat downhill from there, but most enjoyable! Member's 18th was a long way away from the clubhouse - and a rather dull Strokeplay hole. They may, of course , have made further changes since I played it - it was over 10 years ago!

The Open's 18th is definitely the 16th the rest of the year, the first for the members was played as the 3rd last week, it does dog leg around the practice ground as the 16th does (round the other side) but runs in front of the clubhouse before taking a sharp right to the green. Personally think they play it the better way round for the Championship as the normal 17th and 18th are a bit 'meh'!

Back to the OP, what a great opportunity to play it in Open condition, that's a serious prize!

@OP I am so utterly envious. I think this is the best win of any and it is just so cool that it was all still set up for sunday!

Thinks for the update I have been day dreaming about it since your first post. A very cool day!

Thats the regular 16th then, the opens 3rd ie the regular 1st is the very same set up, 90 deg dogleg right, the tented village is a practice area and both 1st and 16th go round it almost clockwise.

Sounds a superb day! What score did you post and did you beat Dazza?

Matt - I scored lots, ended up just in the 90's beat Daz on nett, but he was a couple of shots better gross. In a surprising note, I did finish with the same ball I started with.

I'd agree with Cookielad about the layout, it's a better finish using the members 17th & 18th as the championship 1st & 2nd. Plus the members 17th & 18th are actually pretty decent opening holes.

What a wonderful prize - that's something that you will remember for life

To play on the course set up for the Open must have been special

I play the Dukes the Monday after the Seniors there and the set up is tough as hell !

Remember the first thread and I've been waiting for this.
Well in there, glad you enjoyed it (well you couldn't not enjoy it really), must have been an amazing experience.
Something I think we'd all love a go at.

I was looking down the Wirral from above Holywell yesterday and you could still see the tented village. It just gave me the feeling of wanting to be there and then I read this thread and was really really envious. Well done and glad you enjoyed it.

The greens at Hoylake looked as good as any I have seen at the Open. Just from the TV coverage there didn't seem any stand out holes. I am sure by the time the Open is held there again, I will have forgotten all the holes. (Couldn't remember any from 2006)

St Andrews, Turnberry, Birkdale and Carnoustie are my favourite courses on the TV.
