Did Rory win the BMW, or did Bjorn lose it?

Well think it's fair that it was a bit of both

Rory went round the back 9 5 under and shot a 66 on the final day

But he needed a bit of help from Bjorn

Its incredible how many times a tournament has a leader going into the last day and doesnt win so Id say (probably a little biased too) that Rory did indeed win it, had he treaded water he wasnt in with a shout so he had to collect birdies to even have a sniff.

Wind on links and wind at Wentworth are two different things, miles different.

Yeh, little snippets from the Rory split thread, posted after he won the BMW. If you read the odd snippet you’ll notice how far off some of you were.

I love this one...... He's got all the talent in the world but NONE of the mental strength needed to apply it.

So I'm proved wrong as he won, by that token every time he doesn't win I'm correct as winning is the bench mark to prove me wrong? The boy has all the talent in te world. And will win plenty due to that talent. But do I think he has the mental toughness of a woods, or Nicklaus back in the day. Not a chance. He's blown up more than both of them already.

Actually, you are proven wrong simply because he has won!

Whether he has more mental strength than his competitors is a different story - and you may be right. But I'm pretty sure there are more Majors in him!

I didn't expect Bjorn to have a meltdown like he did!

im im not really sure how wining proves his mental toughness. As I've said, he has immense talent. He will win plenty just by being the best player. But for me, when compared to a lot do the greats he's not there. People seem to remember Norman more fondly than Faldo for example, but I know who I'd put my money on. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it's his personality. But I stand by it. If he'd not won yesterday would you being saying, oh, you must be right he's weak?

btw, I do want to see him win. I'm not anti Rory. Just don't think he will have the single minded determination to win anywhere near as many as he could and originally looked likely too.

I ask again, how does winning show that. He won by talent in my IMO. Yours differed, I respect that. Not saying your wrong. Just don't know if it's been proved either.

Like me ive said since. I hope he kicks on, as he talent is a wonderful to watch.

Maybe winning after splitting up with his fiancée shows mental strength ?

Or maybe the split lifted a weight of pressure he previosuly couldn't handle? All depends on your option or Rory I guess. Like I've said, glad he won.

Moving on, hope he's right for rest of season, as a firing Rory is great to watch. Also will be better for Ryder cup.

You're comparing Faldo's entire career to McIlroy at the age of 25. A mentality typically is formed through experiences. Only history will tell but I think McIlroy will start to develop the traits you talk of.

Maybe, em and I'm not old enough to remember Faldo in his early stages. Did woods not bully people into submission when he was under 25. I'm not sure people are too intimidated by a chasing Rory just yet.

Id id love to be proved wrong, hindsight as always will be 20/20 I guess.

Think you got it right about the wind

Rory has such a high ball flight - it's got to be a struggle on links course but he grew up playing them which is strange ?

If the wind is not too strong then he can power a course but he prob needs to add things like stingers to his game

No links courses in Belfast!

How wrong that poster was! How many young folk who make it big early in a lot of sports keep their head screwed on 100% of the time? He was tired if the celebrity-ness of his relationship. He's a sportsman, and doesn't want his life to turn into a soap opera! Can you really blame him?

Neither was I old enough (or born yet) to know Faldo at 25! All I'm saying is that history has a way of immortalizing the greats of the sport and it's easy to forget that these players had their formative years.

I think the days of such a dominance of a Woods-type figure are over, partly due to Woods bringing in so many more people to the game. But I reckon McIlroy will be as close as anyone to emulating his achievements, in the different landscape of golf today.
