Rory McIlroy - World Number 1

The puts he made for par were crucial,but his short game was brilliant,Rory deserves all the accolades because he seems a great kid,and I wish him all the luck in the majors....good to see Lee come back strong as well.

yes 20 out of his last 24 missed greens were up and downs, putting him in 1st place for scrambling, its not all about the big booming drives, he has it all which is why he's in contention everyweek
 
He managed to grind it when it mattered, fair play and well done.

Interesting months ahead with Tiger performing well yesterday, Westwood also on fire yesterday. WGC at Doral should be a cracker.
 
I just wish I understood the ranking system :mad:

After Rory coming second last week and Donald crashing out I'm not sure why Rory had to win... surely 2 second places in a row would have been enough? And Rory's had something like 10 second place finishes... can't see why that's not enough either.

Still hats off to the man.. he's done good :thup:

It's a 2 year rolling system so a lot will depend on points dropping off from 2 years ago, I remember Westwood became number 1 on a weekend he wasn't even playing.

Thats why it's unlikely Tiger will become number 1 again soon because he had played little golf since Nov 2010 untill recently and even in early 2010 he didn't perfom that great.

Oh and if Westwood's putter ever gets hot, I feel sorry for the rest of the field.
 
Not sure if any one else noticed the big dog stayed away for a few holes and it was 3w off the tee. I think he's display proves good scores come from a solid short game, it was inspirational

Great display of golf all week from Rory - he thoroughly deserves his No 1 ranking (as did Donald, Westwood and Kaymer before him IMO). Comes across as such a down to earth and likeable guy so I just hope he stays that way and doesn't get his head turned by all the adulation and trappings of success and superstardom!! British and Irish / European golf is going from strength to strength at the moment and hopefully we'll see this rewarded in major and Ryder Cup wins this year. Can't wait for the next WGC and the Masters over the next few weeks. With Westwood showing good form, it would be great if Donald comes back and the three of them are battling it out for the first major of the year come the start of the back 9 on Sunday at Augusta.

It was a joy to watch, it was very interesting to see him play for a par on the last hole, it must have taken a strong mind to do that for a player with such a go get it attitude to finish like that.

The control he had over the interviewer at the end told us as much about the world No.1 as the rounds he played. I thought the whole event had a major feel about it.

I am really looking forward to Cadillac next week!!
 
Fantastic to see a piece on the BBC lunchtime news about Rory. Wasn't just a mention either, a correspondent at Holywood GC & his old School. His achievement getting the recognition it deserves!

Still not a cat in hells chance of winning Spoty even if he went on to win all 4 majors.
 
I have just re watched it....I was a bit full while watching it last night so thought I would re watch it sober!

Surprised nobody has mentioned his speech...........he is one classy young man!
 
Well done to the lad, a great achievement for someone who, and I'll hold my hands, I thought didn't have the bottle for the sharp end of this game.
I think it's difficult to see someone dominating like Woods did, but if Rory can get his putting to match the rest of his game ?
