Rors might lose a few fans across the pond after this.....!!!

I like his honesty and as he says it no matter what he does will upset some folk.

He has hardly burned a tricolour or anything so its not as if hes nailed his colours to any flag. He still doesnt know what he is going to do...

So what's the issue ? In 2016 what country does he represent ? Where was he born ? Granted, he could have passport from either Uk or Eire, but I'd have thought he has a UK passport.

He's posted an open letter on twitter about the subject, stating bit upset that his 3/5 wins recent form is not top topic in sports pages concerning him. Think he has a point really who knows what will occur in 4 years time!? Rather than celebrate another excellent victory.

While he's partaking as a Brit would give us a better chance, my thinking is that he should play for Ireland.

He's from Northern Ireland not western England

Oh I wouldn't have gone there os!!
It's his choice, he was born in northern Ireland, some people class them selves as British, some Irish good luck to him either way

Your ridiculous attempt at reconciling complex NI politics is laughable. Sure why don't South Koreans just represent North Korea.

Or better still, why don't Yanks from New Mexico represent Mexico?

Oh wait, it's in the name!

Everyone knows that if he qualifies to represent GB&NI, he will. If not but could play in the Olympics representing the Republic of Ireland, he will.

Sorry but my reply wasn't highlighting anything political, was merely a view. I'm not one to get involved with any Irish politics , but thanks for totally missing the point ;)

I'm a Rory fan through and through beleive me (ask HID) but I see him as Irish not British, please or offend.

As he was born in Northern Ireland which forms part of the Union it makes sense to play for team GB. I'm not even sure he would be allowed to qualify under IOC rules to play for Ireland unless they run the golf the same way as the world cup pf golf where he is entitled to play for Ireland. I doubt it as the IOC are pretty strict on this sort of thing so I think his hands are tied

Thats the whole point he can play for both...

Yes, he can but we all know he wants to represent GB&NI. He's never hidden the fact that he considers himself Northern Irish and British, not Irish.

The sad thing is that he feels he has to placate these mindless morons that are giving him abuse on Twitter.

If I decide to see Lewis Hamilton as Greek, not British, it's my choice.

It's still wrong.

McIlroy is British by birth. He has a choice to claim Irish citizenship should he want. He hasn't exercised that right.

There is nothing Irish about McIlroy.
