Robert Rock .... Yer caddy is a pain in the @@@@

I don't like to watch it but would think that writing a rule to outlaw it will be difficult. Where do you draw the line at what is and isn't permissable??

not difficult at all.

'a caddy may enter the green for the purpose of removing, holding or replacing the flag and for no other purpose; only one caddy is permitted on the green at any one time.'

and if you wanted to define a caddies role as well, that shouldn't be too difficult.

add to the following:

a caddy may
give information that is in the public domain

That would not cover linning up full shots, the rule would need to say something about once the player has addressed the ball the caddy is unable to stand anywhere on the line of play or similar

The reason I dislike it is it should be part of the pros skill base, if a guy cannot hit the ball on line without being lined up should he be a pro, ban him.

Why ever not Freddie??

There are plenty of them that still masquarade as Pro's! ;)

And there was me thinking he was looking for worms.....Doh.... :D :D :D

Its an absolute disgrace that a player cant line up a putt thats only a few feet from the hole.....
This has crept in from the ladies game where its even mor common......
All there short now is to actually get the caddy to play the shot for them as well......How cronic is that.....Muppets....

Aren't the R&A 'looking into this'? Did I not read this in GM a while back?

I'm sure they'll have to do something on all tours as the pace of play at Pro level is beyond a joke - and more importantly, the TV people don't like it.

Caddies are an anachronism from a time when the toffs gave the common folk the honour of carrying the bags for a pittance, -about time the were phased out in my opinion.

my partners now lining up my puts, and she insists on wearing a short skirt, which is fine by me and my mates, alas,my handicap as gone to pot due to the fact she gets the line wrong most of the time,ah well

I must admit I have never understood why caddies are allowed to read greens. The hole point of golf is getting the ball in the hole and a big part of this is putting. If you can't read a green then you should have to learn or you shouldn't be at the top.

It seems odd that you aren't allowed to receive coaching on the course but you get get someone to assist with the most important part of the game?
