Watched the Welsh Open today and can only say one thing ....

Thank FCUK this guy is not competing week in week out because the TV audience would turn off in their droves.
He had a 3 feet putt and had to get lined up by the egotistical caddy who has to LIE down behind him to help line the putt up. He even got lined up for a wedge from 130 only to put it in a bunker, oh I laughed so much I almost bought a round of drinks.

This guy is a disgrace to his profession.

He can't play golf he can only hit golf shots. As for his caddy, from now on I will just call him THRUSH ...

cos he is an irritating ....

I couldn't agree more. The caddy must be a distraction to the fellow competitors and it has to have a negative effect on the pace of play. Rock needs to get a grip. If you can't line yourself up then you shouldn't be on tour

I've seen the caddy on the greens, but, seriously - he's now lining up approaches? That is a joke.

The putting - its not the first time i've seen it happen, though him lying on the green has taken it too far. Didn't faldo go through a spell of it with that lady on the bag?

Can we start an online petition to get this nonsense to stop. I wish I knew how ling their round took with this tommy tank lying on the greens looking at the break.

Did RR 3 putt? That would have taken an eternity to finish.

I've posted this before but there was an interesting article with RR in National Club Golfer last month and covers this subject. Jamie Lane is his caddie who is a pro as well. RR states "a couple of seasons ago we got together and I let him start reading them and his opinion was generally a lot different from me and his view tends to be a lot clearer. I have a general look but he gets the fine detail and things have really improved."

Don't understand the basis for some of the arguments above as if a caddie is there to carry the bag only then surely that would mean no yardages should be given, no clubbing help, no chat about wind direction etc etc. If it gives the guy extra confidence and an edge then fair enough, for all the time it takes compared to Rock doing it himself it won't make much difference. the lining up of the pitch at the last was a joke though although he did get up and down for his 5.

I also really dislike him. His caddie antics on the green really are embarrassing and looks awful, all he needs now is a broom handle putter with a Spider head on it and he really will be public enemy number 1.

The reason I dislike it is it should be part of the pros skill base, if a guy cannot hit the ball on line without being lined up should he be a pro, ban him.

He made it to the third hole playoff in Last years Irish open - and to be honest his caddy was a pain in the ars3 but they did not waste that much time -they where no slower than others - they just looked daft doing their 'team work'

I say good luck, if it works for them and its inside the rules then thats fine.

So Rock is suggesting that his Caddy is a better Reader of the greens. Fine. The caddy suggest '3 inches wide of the left edge' or whatever. From what i saw a few weeks ago the caddy was actually crouching behind Rock as he alligned himself to the agreed target with his putter.

And, as i see it, this is what people object to considering he's a Pro. He shouldnt need a caddy telling him he's aiming too far left or right on an agreed line. He should be able to do this bit by himself.

Hardly surprising that his caddy gets a better read seeing that he's got his chin on the ground looking at the line.

I don't like to watch it but would think that writing a rule to outlaw it will be difficult. Where do you draw the line at what is and isn't permissable??

You could stop them doing the lining up but can you stop them reading greens? Stop the caddies lying down to read them, but what if they did the "Villegas spider"??

So with the caddy now lining up his approaches, it won't be long before he's lining up his drives. With this natural progression, there must be a good chance that in a few years RR will be the bagman, and the caddy playing all the shots!!

Back to reality - ban this practice; it's annoying!!

the lining up of the pitch at the last was a joke though although he did get up and down for his 5.

The line was right... Rock just didn't hit it far enough, 2 more yards and it would have ended up next to the hole.

With these things being within the rules it's hard to complain, but can you imagine if everyone did it?
