Morning all

Been invited to play in a charity day @ Rivenhall GC in Essex this weekend, anyone played there recently? any comments about the course?

Also its my first Stableford so any hints or tips for that would help aswell!

Cheers

Make sure you know how many shots you have on each hole and use them wisely.

You will be playing for points on each hole.

birdie= 3points
par= 2points
bogie=1point

So Say you have a shot on a par 4 and you play it in five shots you score 2points= net par 5 minus your shot = 4 so two points.

If you find you have taken to many shots before you finish the hole and cannot score Pick Up, it can be very frustrating for other players when people insist on putting out for an nine or ten or more and it keeps the game flowing.

I'm sure you will be fine just enjoy it. the good thing about it if you dont score on a hole you can still make it up on another.

When i'm playing on a course i dont know i always make sure I get a course planner, look at the yardages of the hole i'm playing and try to relate it to a similar hole on my home course that gives me a guild given the conditions to what i should be hitting off the tee and for my approach shots.

Hi - I assume it's Rivenhall Oaks just outside Witham (www.rivenhalloaksgolf.co.uk).

There are 2 9 hole courses - The Oaks and the Acorns. I presume you'll be playing the Oaks twice (there are some different tees for the most of the second nine) as the Acorns is really a par 3 course with a couple of par 4 holes. Very friendly and relaxed small club with driving range; they do a lot of work with juniors. Course is not hugely long and quite forgiving on a number of the holes. Enjoyable and relaxing to play with some challenges. 8th (and 17th) is a driveable par 4 if you fancy taking on the pond/lake between you and the green. Played there last week and it was in good condition.

Best thing about Stableford is you can have an absolutely shockingly bad hole (or more) and it doesn't ruin your round as you just score 0 for that hole, so for people with consistency issues (me, for example) it's a godsend.

Thanks for that swingSlow, think we are playing the Oaks and then the acorns, heard that the greens are a tough test on the acorns 9.

With the weather it should be a good day, fingers crossed I can score well!
