Right or wrong

not sure I'm understanding this thread.

You play a round of golf starting at the 1st and when you get to the 10th some guys say they want to start at the 10th and you have to wait? is that the gist? if thats all the facts then there is only one course of retort to these fellows wanting to play. Do one!
one thing your not seeing is the club let the group pre book the 1st and 10th tees , so effectively the 1st &10th id now closed to members

ahh thanks. what a strange way to run a club.

p.s your point re non confronting is very wise (despite my glib do one comment made in jest)

I know some serious martial arts people, one I personally witnessed take on six yobbos one night in the city, there was only him left standing:whoo: BUT....I have also seen them talk situations down 9 times out of 10, in fact they are some of the nicest people I have met and maybe confidence exudes from them as they know if it goes pete tong they can handle it.

There's not really anything strange about clubs taking societies and charity days and closing the tee(s) for a period, in fact for many clubs they are a valuable source of income that help to keep membership fees down. The last thing the club needs is for members to get into heated exchanges with guests as they won't come back. You know all the posts we get from disgruntled forummers who have had bad experiences at other clubs? Guess how these threads come about?

I think it comes down to common sense. If we had not been let through there and then. We would have had to wait for 4 or 5 fourballs to tee off. This is what I tried to explain to the chap but he didn't seem to understand this. There was only 1 3 ball ahead of us on the front nine which we passed on the 5th hole. I think my club should have cut off the tee time earlier to avoid this.

We have society days and charity days a few times a week and this is the first time something like this has happened to me.

I would have thought you needed to check what time the two tees were booked for before starting. When you started on the first you should make sure you had enough time to clear the 10th tee before the charity teed off. I would have been really annoyed at the H4H day if someone teed off either the first or the 10th right in front of our first groups. Both holes being par 3's would have meant the hole would not be cleared until at least 10 minutes after the official start.

In this case you seemed to have got lucky, but good idea to check tee bookings if you have a possible two tee start.

What if the tenth tee is booked out ?

Providing the club has made that fact known then you'd need to have made provision to have played the front nine in enough time to get through the 10th before they close the tee. That's how it works at my place without any issues. If you miss the time, unless the groups are prepared to be accommodating and let you filter in then you wait for the tee to reopen

Ive not played a course where you can book the 10th tee

There are loads of courses that can be used for two tee starts which include closing both tees

If the tee is closed then it's tough on the people who played the front 9

Should be made clear to them before the go out otherwise its a dumb rule

Tee times are published on tee boards

Seen it happen at our place

Just highlighting that it's not always the case that people completing 9 should just go straight through

Spot on. Societies with big numbers often look for clubs with two tee starts. We have had them for H4H in the last three years at Blackmoor, West Hill and North Hants. West Hill was a shotgun start, but I play in another society there and we start at the first and the 10th. It is one of the longest drives to the 10th I know, and I heard of one golfer that turned into Worplesdon, and tried to play there.

It would be very annoying if you were held up all the way out and didn't make the 10th in time.

Our tee times are much less formal I can pretty much turn up and play anytime

Annoying it maybe but you know the tee is booked so will be up to you to ensure you have left yourself enough time to get round

It's what we need to do on Tuesday's or when Seniors have a match or if society has booked
