i have to agree with you on pitch marks there are some people very bad at repairing them i seen that poster before and printed it of and put it up all over the locker room and got some put in the ladies as well

Fragger positively glows when he has a pitchmark to repair.

Me - oh not another one.. :p :p

It does annoy me - our greens are peppered with old marks. The greens are going to suffer and the ordinary golfer will feel the pain of missed putts as a result. With the greens being so soft at the moment, some of the pitchmarks are like craters and still they don't get repaired.

I belong to a members golf club and it dismays me the amount of pitchmarks that do not get repaired.........

I can understand it on a public track, but not a members club. I usually repair 2 or 3 each green, I should only have to repair my own, we should take more pride in our own course....

Am I weird that I actually enjoy repairing my pitchmark?
I like it when it's really deep and i repair properly and tap it down and it's like it never existed, gives me a great satisfaction. :o :D

When the greens are very soft and podgy like they are now you don't even need a pitch mark repairer.

Just knock round the edges of the pitchmark with the heel of your putter which pinches all the soft turf into a small mound and then tap it down flat.

I used to think that I was just being a bit lazy doing it this way but then I saw Gary Player give the same tip on an old "Playing with the Pros" programme.

If you went into the clubhouse and asked who has repaired their pitchmarks today, everyone would say that they had to repair others as well as their own.......... so where the hell are these extra marks coming from?? I think it may be the same people who are behind the crop circles!! :D

Some of them just need a bit of sand in there and voila a new bunker!! :D

Yep its ridiculous how some players do not. A club manager here in South Africa was telling me he was out on the course on a sponsored day when he saw a visitor leave a pitch mark so as they came off the green he spoke to the man asking to please repair his pitch mark. The guy refused saying!" No way - I paid good money to play today and why should I do the green staff's job? They get employed to maintain the course so they must do it!!" I visit a lot of courses in my job and its all the more snobbish courses where this problem is at its worst! I really think that the only way to improve the situation is to allow for a penalty in the Rules of Golf if witnessed by a course marshall.

I'm with Fragger and TJ on this - it's very satisfying to have a pitchmark to repair, especially if it comes off a good shot in.

I get really p'd having to repair dozens of others to even get a half chance of missing the putt

I wish I had to repair more pitch marks, but I find that when you're chipping on from just off the green on your fifth shot, that you don't tend to make a pitch mark!

Our greens resemble the Somme every Monday morning. I must have repaired up to half a dozen marks on every hole on my way round yesterday.

I seem to recall there was a letter on this (or a similar) subject in last month's GM, where the writer suggested his club's greens were littered with pitch marks, and laid the blame squarely at the door of society golfers.

If the experience at our place is anything to go by, then members are probably the worst culprits.
