Rented House- Lawn Advice

Having had to move into rented accommodation last year because our place was water damaged, we got well shafted on the "keep the garden maintained" clause in the rental agreement. The landlord provided a crap mower but we did our bit and the final cut was a week before we moved out in October.

Lo and behold we received a claim for over £300 for "extensive garden maintenance" to cover all the things we had not done, weeding, pruning, edges etc. It was a complete con. We took it to the ombudsman but still got stung for around £260 of our deposit.

Payback is a bitch though - the last two people to look to move in have contacted us about the landlords and we have given them the true picture. So the property has now been empty for six months and apparently a bunch of pik ... sorry ethnic group travellers, have stuck a caravan outside.

Great write up, is that your lawn there? Looking good.

That certainly is my lawn.

Had to have over 100 Tonne of Spoil removed, then prepped and laid myself. When they dropped the turf off, they said they rarely see people prepare the base to such a high standard. This had a weed membrane underneath a 50/50 mix of sand topsoil, then laid the turf on that. Never had a weed, but I still use Verdona for anything that might seed itself from adjoining properties. Everyone who see's it thinks its nice, I still go out and practise my chipping on it. if only the 1st cut on my home course was like this.

I hope you took a photo of the garden when you moved in. Then all you need to do is return in the same condition. Spending loads of money, time and effort on a rented house seems like a waste to me.

Quick bit of weeding, seeding watering and regular cut and you will be fine.
