I see plenty of posts on here of people wondering if they should move from regular to stiff irons but not too many talking about moving in the opposite direction.

I've moved from using KBS tour stiff to R300 dynamic gold and couldn't be happier with them. They feel like much less effort, ones I feel I havnt flushed are still going a fair distance when i expect them to go alot less.

It's been a number of years since I've used regular irons. I still like to use heavy stiff hybrids, woods and drivers but these irons have been a breath of fresh air.

Anyone made the move in flex one way or the other recently?

Not sure if the same Gary but I use quite heavy regs in irons.

Am convinced the weight has me trying to shift them more??

Would like to try something lighter.

I have a mixture of shafts, firm graphite in most irons, but two irons are stiff steel, have ladies flex in the 9 wood, regular flex in the 7 wood and stiff flex in the 3 & 5 wood. I can feel a difference but doesn't seem to affect results for me. Also have a set of the same irons x14 in regular flex but again doesn't seem to affect results really.

Currently trying out a set of heavier stiff steel flexed irons and they feel massively different weighting as the weight feels like it is in my hands, whereas the graphite firm flex irons the weight is more neutral to in the head and struggling with that and thinning/topping a lot of shots.

but if it works use it.

I have gone from regular to stiff shaft in my driver and three wood, with great results. New shaft is Project X Even Flow Blue.

Less spin, more distance and straighter. I am almost a fairway finder.

I had a set of irons with PX 5.0 Flighted in them - so 5.5 in the short irons, 5.0 in the mid and 4.5 in the long.
Didn't really make much difference in feel or performance for me..
I'm gradually drifting to the theory that weight has as much, of not more, significance.
Light shafts and me don't mix well. Anything under 110g in irons spells trouble.

For us mere mortals shaft weight will influence how we swing...after which it then becomes how the shaft flex works.

Real golfers don't have such issues....🤔

Two completely different style shafts though.
I would say it’s just the different profile of the shaft that suits your swing. It would make sense if you prefer heavier shafts in other clubs.
I have X’s in everything but my hybrid. As I prefer a softer feel in a club I don’t like to go after.

You may be right there as I tend to tickle my irons around but like to jump at my driver and woods.

The feeling I get is the shaft flexing quite a bit at impact. A strange yet satisfying feeling. Took a few hits to get used to but now feels nice and soft.

I like the complete opposite with driver and woods. I don't like them moving about what so ever. Ive used other regular driver shafts where I can't feel where the face is pointing. No such issues with the irons.

Not really moved but similarly to you perhaps I have been fitted to stiff in driver, woods, hybrids and regular for irons.
I flit about on the cusp so can often manage either, with the usual caveat about their being no real standards.

NOt recently but I made the move when I realised I was losing distance.

At my last fitting the company rep suggested I should be using stiff but looking to the future I stayed with reg.

I know from doing a lot of shaft comparisons on the golf course it does depend upon what actual shaft.

Fitted last October, well, had a few hits with a raft of different shafts and it was obvious I needed to move from Reg to Stiff (both KBS 90). The difference is remarkable, I get into my irons and find the increase in stability incredible in terms of flight/dispersion.

Funnily enough I've just made the exact same move last month. With irons only.
Don't know whether it's the irons or the shafts (I'm sure it's a mix of both), but I'm absolutely loving the change.
I couldn't really tell you what feels better about it, but it just does.

Was a bit of a blow to my ego at first when I was told I was fitted to the regulars o_O
But after a few minutes I thought what the hell, I love them and I'm hitting them a lot better with distance unaffected

After years of mentioning to one guy in our group (now in his late 70s) that he should stop trying to use a driver with regular shaft and switch to a softer flex. He finally switched after being offered one second hand and he now realises he should have listened to the advice ages ago.

I've been demo'ing a TM M6 3 wood in regular the past 3 or 4 rounds and have been hitting it miles and I haven't had a regular shaft in a wood for 20 years.

I went from reg flex in my driver to x flex.
Play reg in my 3&5 woods, stiff in my hybrid and 2 iron and reg steel in my irons
No doubt I can get better suited shafts but they seem to work for me

It all depends on what you like to feel and see in your flight. Sounds like you have found your happy place. I went down the X route after being told I should be playing them, but it was harder work to see my preferred shot shape and was hitting straight to a slight push that I could never get used to so went back to Stiff.

I have gone from a stiff driver to a soft regular on advice from my pro, played with him a few times and he watched my bad shots, all low lefts so we ordered a 40g soft reg and it’s whippy as hell, anyway it’s a game changer for me, missed one fairway last week and hitting the ball way higher and getting some good distance from it, I wouldn’t say it’s longer than the previous shaft but it’s hitting way more fairways and I am chuffed with that.

Having a fitting for driver this weekend and have a feeling based on what I've tried so far I may end up with a stiffer shaft. However it could just as easily be a reg but heavier shaft see what the results are but one thing I've found having a dabble last couple of days is slightly heavier steel shafts rather than different flex seems work well for me. My shafts are 90g and ones I've tried recently in 105g have a much better feel and I can feel the weight of club better throughout the swing so perhaps a change is coming through the hole bag.

Real men don’t game a soft regular.

40g driver shaft is extremely light. Not even sure I have tired one of those.

What did he say the whippy shaft will do for you or why you were losing them low left with the stiff?
