Recording Your Swing

I agree with Bobmac. At most of our level the swing is never going to look that pretty. I used to video my swing, and got hung up on the look and everything went downhill.
If you just focus on one thing such as the right heel coming off the ground it can be a real help.

Having recently posted my abomination of a swing on here, I reckon that the benefits are huge. I just wish more Pros would use it for lessons. You don't even need expensive kit.

After all the comments on my swing, if I get the set up posture right, the swing and ball look after themselves. Okay, it still may not be picture perfect, but with my natural in to out swing it's worked very well.

I doubt if I'll ever get that perfect swing, but if I can keep producing some lovely draws with the new set up, then I'm quite happy.

It's a case of play to your strengths, and recognising what they are. Only video can realy help with that.

It's one of life's great mysteries. Everywhere I've lived lessons with a camcorder have cost more.
You wouldn't get me paying even 1p more per hour to a golf pro to use video. The only reason why my pro uses the camera and laptop is that he agreed to charge me the normal rate.
When I go out teaching/coaching, I don't expect to be paid a premium for using a grands worth of kit.....or even more......It's all part of the service.

We used to use video coaching in windsurfing. Particularly when teaching 'carve gybing' and 'waterstarts' as these were the two most important aspects of short board windsurfing. This was 20 years ago!

At least the punters could then 'visualise' the routine, and see where the faults were.

As you say it was all part of the service.

I don't know if it's laziness from the part of golf Pro's, or just a case of 'here we go again' with regard to lessons. Ala, Happy Gilmore at the start when Happy meets his coach reading a newspaper whilst giving a lesson?

Disclaimer. Not all Pro's.

I may not be a golf Pro, but I was a professional instructor in my previous life before golf!

yeah, i both video, and have mine video'd. whenevr i have my lesson with the pro, i ask him to email me the lesson so that i can analyse. i also video my swing with my phone occasionally. it lets you see where you are going wrong, although its important not to get too analytical.
