Hi all,I recently acquired a set of second hand Mizuno MX-100s, 4-SW. The only other clubs are my putter and driver. The set I got rid of had hybrids (3&4) instead of normal irons, so I now have a bit of a gap between the driver and the longest iron.I did get on quite well with the hybrids, but I've never been sure of the advantages/disadvantages of then versus fairway woods. So, can any of you give your opinions on the above, and also a decent version to purchase 2nd hand? I'm probably looking to spend around £50 tops.I'm a high handicapper, currently playing off 24, so something pretty easy to hit would be good!!

Taylormade Burner absolute easy to hit,and cheap as chips.
Should be able to pick any of them up for about that price.

The main advantages of a hybrid when compared to fairway woods are (IMHO):
Shorter shaft, designed to get ball in the air easier, cut through semi-rough easier.

The main disadvantage, for me, is that I don't like hitting them off the tee quite so much.

As for possible purchases, I'm not entirely sure what S/H clubs cost. But I know that when I tried the TM RBZ 2 hybrid it went like the proverbial off a shovel.
For a cheaper option which is new, but good, I tried a clients Tour Edge 2 iron hybrid which was very nice. Also, from what I understand, brands such as Benross and MD make good affordable gear.

If you're after a fairway wood the cleveland classic xl are just over £50 brand new which is robbery.

I've got myself a 5w and it is an excellent club, ridiculous value for money for a brand new club.

Otherwise, scour eBay for brands like tour edge exotics, adams, bridgestone, snake eyes, kzg etc. Top quality clubs but cheaper second hand as not a well known brand like TM, callaway etc etc

As already mentioned, the key advantages of a hybrid over a fairway is a shorter shaft for more control, and a more compact head that make them slightly more workable. The disadvantages include a loss in distance and (if you are looking to use it chiefly from the tee) a less confidence inspiring, smaller head.

As a higher handicapper with a lower budget, try looking for 2011-2012 models including the likes of the TaylorMade RocketBallz, Cobra Baffler, PING G20 and Adams Idea A7.

Get yourself a 5 wood and a 22/4 hybrid

My sets spot on now the 5 wood is so easy to hit and I can recommend the TM R580 nice and long and bloomin cheap as chips on ebay (mine was a tenner!!!!)

On the hybrid front I can recommend a cobra baffler t rail, just sold mine annoyingly, great club again very easy to hit

Some on here don't like them but have a look on Golfbidder. They did (not sure if they still do) offer a 7 or 10 (can't remember) period where you can return it if you don't like it subject to no damage of course

I had cobra s9-1 fairways and cobra baffler dws hybrid when I started out, both excellent. You should be able to pick up a wood and a hybrid for your £50 budget on eBay I would have thought. I sold a good condition s9-1 3 and 5 wood for £25 the pair a while back

You can't go wrong with ping g20, but you've got no chance for your budget.

I'd think about getting a 4w and a 3h to plug your gap between driver and 4i
