I played Hollinwell a few weeks ago. Couldn't recommend it highly enough. Stunning course and land with a brilliant clubhouse.
No you're fine thanks..........????ain’t that the truth me duck.
Hollinwell isn't necessarily a great golf club, but it is blessed with a great golf course. Easily the best in my county.
Hillsborough would be easier to get to than Beauchief and is a lovely course with spectacular views over the Peak. Interesting mix of holes and not too hilly. The 18th is over 600 yards and a test of stamina at the end of the round, even though downhill all the way! Worth the green fee of £25-£30.In Sheffield tomorrow (Monday 11th July) and have about 7hrs to kill…so I think I’ll have a knock. Thinking if on my lonesome I’ll just do something like Beauchief GC, maybe push the boat out for Hillsborough GC, not going to spend much if I’m by myself.
But if anyone in the city or close abouts fancies a knock that would be great.
I‘m dropping my BiL off at The Royal Hallamshire hospital at 9am and have to pick him up about 5pm so that constrains how far I can travel to play.
PS - can also recommend Lees Hall Golf Club too. Often overlooked over the big name Sheffield clubs but worth a visit. You'd hardly know you were in a major city it's so peaceful! In Sheffield tomorrow (Monday 11th July) and have about 7hrs to kill…so I think I’ll have a knock. Just looked on their website and can get an 11am time. Will give them a ring - see if they might be able to put me with a willing member also playing around then. Looks a nice track. Lees Hall also looks nice and for future reference it’s right side of Sheff for me.You won’t be disappointed by Hillsborough, Hugh. Lovely track.
Either will give an enjoyable game I'm sure!Just looked on their website and can get an 11am time. Good call re the Abbeydale Open, will have a look to see if I can fit that in.Either will give an enjoyable game I'm sure!
Abbeydale is also quite stunning and only £40 green fee which, for the quality, is a bargain. They've a seniors open on tomorrow with a couple of slots for £30 including a meal!
There are a couple of slots still available in the open (as far as the website suggests) but at the earliest slot of 8:00AM!Good call re the Abbeydale Open, will have a look to see if I can fit that in.
It’s on Tuesday and looks full…will give them a ring just in case of call offs. As speaking with my Mrs it seems like I may well be in the area (staying in Chesterfield) until Friday afternoon so open to offers ??
I have been hearing and reading good reviews re stanedge.Thoroughly enjoyed Hillsborough (Sheffield)...and also this last week had a couple of very enjoyable 18s round 10 hole Stanedge (Chesterfield) - a lovely little club.
Played Sherwood Forest two weeks ago and Worksop, Lindrick, The Hallamshire and Coxmoor last year. All highly recommended with a small preference for Sherwood. Rotherham is also very good as is Longcliffe near Loughborough.
I can whole-heartedly endorses the good reviews.I have been hearing and reading good reviews re stanedge.
