We're on our hols up in the north east in September and for a couple of days will be based in Inverurie. Can anyone recommend any course to play either inland or links. I'd even be happy with a wee 9 hole course.

Don't want to spend a massive amount and i'll need to fit it in with the wife and toddler so something close by that they could do would need to be a consideration - wether that be a beach, coastal walk, shops or swimming pool.

Either monday 14th september or tuesday 15th.

For inland try Newmachar Hawkshill - great course through forest close to Inverurie. For family Archaeolink isn't that far, also the forestry commission visitor centre at Bennachie aint far away - quite good interactive stuff for kids.

For coastal you're quite spoiled but not far from Inverurie is the wonderful Cruden Bay which must be about a half hour drive away. Close by is Slains Castle, great big beach and clifftop walks too.

Both courses aint that cheap but good tracks, very very different too.

If you're stuck you can travel the hour to me at Ballater for a free game. ;)

As I lve in the NE Scotland, I might be able to help out if I can. If I'm fit enough to play golf by then (illness) a round at my club could be arranged. Otherwise, I agree, Cruden Bay is a great links course. You also have Inverurie GC itself, a nice parkland course, as is Kintore(bit hilly), and Kemnay, both within 15 min of Inverurie. Also Old Meldrum and Meldrum House are about 15 miles away, good courses but a bit more expensive. All Aberdeen courses are very good as well. For something a little different, Stonehaven 11 miles south of Aberdeen is quite spectacular. Best of luck

Thanks for all the replies... lots of good info to go on and very generous offers :)

I'll consult with the boss lady and see what day fits best and get back on this thread nearer the time. Good to have stuff to go on though :)

You can't be Scottish by birth can you?
;)

The "Tight Scotsman" image was started by an Englishman to make them seem generous! :p

I think it was started by west coast Scots referring to east coast Scots. I've only ever heard of the Aberdonians, Fifers and Edinburgh folk being labelled tight (all east coast) as opposed to all Scots.

There is an old Scots expression that goes -
"It taks a lang spoon tae sup wi a Fifer" and an expression they use about Edinburgh folk is "You'll have had your tea".

I'm sure it's all a bit of leg pulling, whether there is any truth in it I couldn't or daren't say! :o

Its true Birdieman ,Aberdonians and Fifers are tighter than submarine doors and if a pound coin fell out there trouser pockets it would hit them on the head on the way down. :D :D :D

Excuse me.........Fifer here.
Left Scotland in 1978.
Went back in 98 for a visit. I got as far as the Forth road bridge only to find out they had put up the price to 80p. Needless to say I caused a right commotion at the toll booths when I performed my U-turn ;) ;) ;)

Never mind Bobmac, Alex Salmond scrapped all bridge tolls some time ago so you won't need to pull a u-eey next time! ;)

Hey,

at least us fifers can be accused of being tight.

You Dundonians have no money to be tight with

Anyway it's a common myth about this £1 coin hitting us on the back of the head. It's with 5p's it starts

The expression is "Come in, you'll have had your tea."

when my Granny answered the door, she always put a hat on. If it was someone she didn't want to speak to or let in she would say, "Och, I'm just going oot!" If it was someone she did want to speak to she would then say, "My you're lucky, I've just got in!" :D
