Anyone a member of a club that participates in this scheme? It states clubs allocate 2 tee slots Mon-Fri for visiting players in the scheme unless they choose not to if they're busy!

Interested to hear how practical in reality it is to get a suitable tee time at one of the participating courses?

Thanks.

Hi Amanda, my club is a participant in this scheme, and I will be trying this soon, I am lead to believe that its not something that many members use so I would say it should be quite easy to get a tee.

AVGC has been a member of this for a few years and tbh its an excellent membership perk. I think Ive probably played 10 or so of the courses on the list now (several of them a few times) and never had a problem getting a tee time, always just phone a day or two in advance. The 2 slots arent fixed as far as Im aware and it is actually so lightly used that the clubs always seem happy to have you (even if just for potential revenue in the shop or on food and drinks). Has your club joined then? Also if you want to know what any of the localish courses are like let me know, weve played most of them now

That sounds great and what I hoped to hear as most clubs would I hope welcome extra revenue from food and drink. I do think it's a great perk and attraction to join a club as we like to play different courses at least once a month. We have been considering a change of club next year and one on the possible list is Oundle GC. We've played it a few times and quite like it although some don't like the lay out. It's always in good condition and a really nice club house and we've always found it very friendly too. Time yet to decide but the reciprocal golf helps for sure as a good number local enough to play - not least AVGC which we also like and would join if it were nearer.

Oundles an odd one, theres some good holes but also a few holes where the crossover is a bit weird. From where you are on the network theres a few courses cambridge way that are quite decent, Kingsthorpe in Northampton, Pavenham is Bedford and then theres us and a few others further south.

If you ever want another game at AVGC give us a shout and we'll sort something

Agree some of the cross overs at Oundle are a bit weird - hard hats required!! Not played Kingsthorpe but like Pavenham and Royston and also a couple in Norfolk where we have our caravan. I will indeed give you a shout as it's on our list to play again!

Take the hard hat to Kingsthorpe too lol (lovely course but on a tiny piece of real estate), if you go to Norfolk then yes a few options that way too

Yes my club is on the network and me and my other regular 3 have tried at least 8 of the courses, most of which are ok. I think Royston stands out but a lot of people don,t like it. We love it! Also, never had a problem getting on and some will do sunday afternoons so you can make up your own sunday/mondat trip and just pay for a hotel. We did barnham Broom but not using the reciprocal and the main course is fantastic but not sure if they do that one on the reciprocal or the poorer cousin course. We are also members of the 1893 reciprocal and if you check out Pavenham they have an addtional network as well as the smartgolfer one.

Played Royston recently and like you quite enjoyed it - weird kind of location though! It is meant to keep playable when all around are too wet though so that's a plus. Barnham Broom is near enough to our caravan location to play as well.

It all sounds very positive

I think my club is part of the Smart golf network. Never used the facility to play other courses though. Maybe I should?
