Reccomend me some clubs?

I'm browsing about for irons at the moment.

The two sets that stick out at me are Wilson staff di11's and the callaway x 22's.

The thing with golf clubs though is one mans preference can be another mans hate. Best bet is to get to a driving range or golf shop and try as many sets as possible. To be honest that's the bit I enjoyed the most when I bought my last club.

If your liking your mates TM burner plus you can now pick up burner (09) or 1.0 shiney new for around your budget of £200 quality clubs IMO if you want a premium name at a decent price.

You might as well open a golf magazine review section and throw a dart at it. Get a set of Tour blades. No get a set of super game improvement clubs. No get .....

Perhaps your current clubs are impeding your progress more than your swing, so go ask a friendly pro to take a look, maybe do a few measurements and advise whether what you need is a few lessons or new sticks. If the former, £100 will buy you a few decent lessons from a decent pro and you will almost certainly play better afterwards. If the latter, get advice from the pro on what suits you best based on swing speed, how well you square the face, tempo, how high you hit it, whether you hook, slice, shank, top, thin (or all of those) and all that other stuff which is impossible to describe here. Tell him you want good value second hand stuff which you can later sell again when you get even better.

Good luck.

Good advice

I'd have some lessons tbh. I've got some wilson di11s and I don't hit the ball much further. I've started having lessons one every 2weeks and seeing a bit of improvement. I thought the clubs would turn me into a superstar overnight but they haven't.

I would go to a friendly pro near you and book a lesson, but also mention that you are in the market for new clubs, get him to look at your swing and obviously he should make a few corrections but he will probably be able to recommend you a set of clubs that are right for you and your swing, just make sure you outline your budget first as by the sounds of it you dont want him recommending you a £600 set of clubs! :)

I have to agree with alot of the advice being given with respect to having a chat to a pro about what you need in the way of clubs. Sadly we don't have the insight into your swing that a pro would be able to get from a 10 minute look at it. I took advice from our old pro who told me to be on the lookout for a set of irons with a stiff shaft and a cavity back with a small amount of offset. As I was taught with a set of forged irons I didn't like the feel of cast irons which then caused another problem as most forged irons are blades but with a bit of luck I found a set of Callaway Xtour forged cavity back irons for the rediculous price of £70 posted (most sets at the time sold for around £150 plus). The next thing was to replace my driver to a stiff shaft but with modern composite shafts this opened up another mine field that I wish I had known before I bought the one I did.
Personally I would invest n half a dozen lessons then ask the pro who is teaching you what he thinks would be the best set for you to buy. He might even suprise you with something he has available at a price that suits you both.

Cheers Ricky. Definitely the type of thing I'm looking for. I'm a bit hesitatant about spending £200 on sticks before I've tried them though. Shame the deal is only for 24hours.

Lessons are a good recommendation to get the basics right grip, swing, set up etc
I believe new clubs will help you over the ones you've got as technology has moved on, particularly with game improver irons. They are more forgiving have a bigger sweet spot etc. I have a set of Cleveland CG16 and love these. A good recommendation as mentioned before try a few different 7 irons out at a driving range and see what you personally prefer. Also when you've narrowed it down make sure you try it on the course before you buy so you can see how it actually performs ie with proper balls and off grass.
Enjoy with your shopping and don't rush or feel pressurised into buying.
Good luck
