After finally getting my three cards in I now have my first official club handicap. The cards I put in were 101 (mega windy, rainy day), 89 and 85 and I have been given 16 handicap. (Par 69)
Quite pleased with this figure as I think I can quite easily play to it. My game has been improving week on week with regular lessons and I am shooting low to mid 80's.

There were a few comments and raised eyebrows in the bar when the secretary showed me the handicap list on the comps notice board. I have played with some of the guys who were in the bar and two of them had marked my cards and commented on how many shots I had thrown away.
First comp is this Saturday and I can't wait for it. Maybe I will need my stetson and chaps to play in. I will keep you posted on how I get on.

Good on yer.
Now I've joined the same club as CVG and they've accepted my 10 handicap I can sign his cards and get him sorted.

God help me IMurg is on my case. Interesting, my game has improved now I have returned to playing regularly, currently once a week, it's also useful to play with somebody who has a lower handicap than you, watching & learning how they play out of differnet situations etc

I know that officially 16 would be right but as he says he is shooting in the low to mid 80s and will find it easy to play off 16.
Congu also states that
A. The Handicap Committee may allot an initial whole number Exact Handicap less than the best adjusted score if it has reason to consider that a lower handicap is more appropriate to the player’s ability . Factors to be considered include:

Previous playing history and any lower handicap previously held at the Home Club or at any other club. This is of paramount importance.
Time of year and prevailing weather conditions when cards submitted.
Information from peers .

But you might be right, he might get nervous in a comp and shoot 90
Good luck anyway
