Reader Test Panel

I had a burner - it was a bit of an impulse buy. Sounded nice and went OK, but I hit it very high and lost distance. I think this was due to the shaft being an inch longer than standard on all burners.

I had a Burner and also had control problems. The longer shft did not help and I was slicing it all over the shop.

eaglehunter, I have been told that I do get to keep the item, I would however like to make a point for fear of being labelled a freebie grabber.

When I applied for the test panel I included in my email to GM that I was not looking for freebies and would send anything back once removed.

The offer of testing the driver came as a result of my post about purchasing a new one, Mike got in touch after that post.

When Mike contacted me the first thing I asked him was where to post the club back to after review.

This may seem a little OTT, it is just that on an angling Forum I used to belong to things got very nasty and bitter towards people who got such perks and the forum became nasty & hostile with an ethos of them & us.

I am a proud man and would never cynically seek out freebies. Just to make that clear to everyone.

Jon.

I agree with medwayjon, I too was looking for a new putter and was thinking about splashing out no a scotty blade and Mike asked me to test a Yes! Tiffany, it has improved my putting no end and if Yes! require it back I would 100% buy a replacement one.

Could not agree more, would happily return the Topflite balls if someone wants to recover them from Rutland Water. In all honesty, have 3 Gamer and 3 Freaks left and have finished my review (subject to receiving the questions from MikeH) so if anyone else wants to try them out, let me know and I will happily send them out.

Jon, I don't have a burner but have tried my friends one I thought that the head looked massive compared to the G10 also found that ball trajectory was too high for me personally despite it being the same loft as my own club.
It has a nice solid sound and not hollow like some big headed drivers and seemed very forgiving on any minor miss hits.
I am sure you will find it easy to hit and it will add a few yards to your game too, friend reckons he is 15-20 yards longer than when he had the superquad.

No thats nice to hear MJ, you clearly are the sort of genuine person who would not be looknig for personal gain out of testing the driver, i was wondering out of pure interest alone as I am fairly new to the forum and was just wondering what the situation was with people testing equipment. Anyway hope you enjoy the club, put it to good use!

Nah!!!

You are all just a bunch of freeloaders :D :D :D

Just jealous cause i missed the post. By the time i seen it there were hundreds of replies so i thought it was not wothwhile replying

I was quite anti at first and took some abuse on here for being a 'moaning old fart' but with utter hypocrisy when I later found out the stuff was for keeps I put my name in and last week got an email explaining what they do and how many applicants etc there were to test gear. Have to wait and see if I get a chance to win (erm I mean test) any new gear!! ;)
Unlike Medway I'd have no qualms at all about keeping free gear!! Shame on me.

Nice one StuartD, very good.

This reader testing system is excellent and long may it continue! And its also a good way to put names to faces when the magazine is published.

Looking forward to medwayjons Burner review. Probably be

"Club does not have Cobra logo stamped on it. Club is no good"

What a liberty!!! I have a Mizuno wedge and an odyssey putter so I can't be that bad. (no offence btw)

I Will give an honest and impartial review, If I like it I shall keep it, if not I shall return it.

Hi all

Just a couple of things to clarify

* Keeping clubs - in the T&C's we send out to those who have been selected for the test panel we do point out that we may need to recall the clubs if the manufacturer requests the sample back. My honest view is this will only happen very occasionally but we need to cover our arses. TaylorMade have already said they don't want any samples back hence why Jon will get to keep the Burner TP driver should he wish to

* Applications to join the panel - it's no exaggeration to say we have been deluged with applications (WELL OVER 1000 TO DATE) Making it by far and away the biggest response we have ever had to this sort of thing

Working on the basis that we feature 6 readers a month in the magazine from April issue onwards that only 72 of you a year.

We will try to feature a good spread of ages, handicaps but even still, that means there will be a lot of disappointed applicants. So, apologies in advance if you are not selected.

Hope that info is of some use

cheers

Mike H

I got a wee G10 3 wood and due to the weather have been restricted to mats at the range. I too would/will have no problems sending the club back and I realise that realisticly is my one and only chance to partake in the testing process due to the popularity of the GM community so I am concentrating on making my review as honest as possible.

P.S. I didn't apply for the coaching program as I am a stubborn old mule who thinks all these young upstarts (under 35) don't know there 4R5E from their elbow ;)

come on lads lets not throw the rattle from the prams , we are all supposed to be adults, so whoever got picked for the panel i sincerly hope you all get to keep the equipment you have tested, its not every day you get free gear espcially of this quality and if you do have to send it back well it should't be any skin off anyones nose

I'm really not surprised 1000 people applied. Do remember your meant to test it and review it too.
If you dont like your kit give to charity auction or something like that(if mikes ok with that)!

while im here how quickly did your wedges rust up jon? Mine are starting already!

To me its not about getting to keep it, its about getting my mug in the mag and gloating round the club and getting to test a new driver while im at it.
