I've been trawling the interwebbythingy for some golf balls, preferably the best quality ones for next to nothing cost!

Why oh why when I click on the ones I am interested in, and I'm deep into a site, do I keep having to keep "clicking for price" it's not like it's secret or anything or that any other retailer wanting to check pricing is likely to give up at that point

It's more likely I will give up at that point though as your price really isn't cheap enough to be a flipping secret!!!!!!

Completely agree with this. Why is it seemingly only golf websites that have this policy to hide prices until you click on to the product!

I think the brands decide this. Normally Titleist are a swine for doing it for all of their products

This is the correct answer it is the brands insisting on this or pull supplies from a non conforming retailer, titleist auchsnet are one of the worst. Same as many kit tests over the years have never included titleist gear for the same reason they refused permission for direct comparison testing. Makes a ball test a joke with no Pro v1 included....

Is it about protecting the brand? If knockdown prices are displayed all over the place, is the product perceived as being cheap. Whereas if someone has to "click for price" does it help maintain the perception that its a quality product?

That said, I was told by an IT geek of how to change the settings on your search so that it will automatically dispaly the price as soon as the page opens... can't remember how to do it... DOH!

I had to click through several pages on AG to finally get a not very cheap " special price"

I thought it was more to do with the online price matching scenario. What I mean is it stops software from scouring all the prices and allowing the user to undercut??

I could be completely way off the mark with that, but I'm a sceptical sod.

I agree it is a brand decision. I can understand it, though, for the brand leader which has little to gain and possibly much to lose. A bit like Cameron's decision not to do a head to head with Milipede.

If you are looking for balls I ordered from premier lake balls. £40 for 40 Taylor Made Tour Preferred X (Normally £32-£40 for 12 new). I would say there are 20 like new, 15 in good condition with only 5 that were scuffed up. There were 2 that I would not play in competition.

If you are willing to take the risk give them a go. I was happy I did.

Not a fan of lake balls as no two balls ever seem to play the same but there are loads of good deals out there if you are prepared to invest a little time and look. I do see why the manufacturers do it and agree that it's annoying when all you want to do is click and buy but the retailer has to play ball or lose the contract to stock that brand
