I note that the average attendances at Ibrox Stadium for Rangers 3rd division matches is around 45,000.
That is quite a show by their fans, you can't imagine any other club who would enjoy that sort of support in the lowest league of their country.
Queens Park even enjoyed a bumper pay day when the crowd for their home game against Rangers was 30,000.
Well done Rangers fans.

I see that their 7 month trading figures show a £7m loss, that looks a bit strange considering the place where they now are.

Firstly let me say this, as a Celtic fan my post is not a dig it's an observation and a genuine thought.

Rangers as a club would have always had a genuine lift in season tickets and average attendances this year, first and foremost because the season book prices are substatially cheaper than what they were in the SPL and secondly as a genuine UP YOURS to the authorities who the portrayed to be the bad guys in sticking them in division 3 (no need to go into the debate on them being relegated to league 3 or re-introduced to league in league 3). It's fair play to the Rangers fans for coming out in numbers to support their team, it remains to be seen as to what happens next year as this season financially was a bit unknown to them.

Financially a £7m loss for 6 months should be a major worry especially as Rangers haven't had to buy a player this season, it will be interesting to see what the figure is come close of play season 2012-2013. If they are losing money like this ongoing what is going to happen WHEN they get to the top division and potentially have to buy substantially to ensure they not only remain in the SPL which for Rangers fans I reckon would be unacceptable but what they need to do to compete to win the SPL.

I think this thread has " run it's course" and should be locked before it ends in tears

On the face of it that is a worrying figure and clearly not sustainable in the long term. The assumption is that they'll progress through the leagues and revenue in the SPL will be higher than Div 3. As will player costs, of course.

It's not quite as simple as the figures suggest, however. I'm not an accountant and haven't gone deeply into it but, for example, they paid > £5M to buy the assets of the club (don't know if that's included) and around £2.5M "footballing debts" (which are included). They also bought Edmiston House and the Albion car park. Of course, they still have cash in the bank following the share issue.

Val's point regarding the fans is what troubles me more. No great surprise they turned out in great numbers this year but it will be very interesting to see how the attendances hold up next season; especially if league reconstruction leaves them in the bottom tier for another year. My guess is still incredible for the lower divisions but probably a drop off from this year.

The loss figure is misleading because of the setup costs to get back up and running etc. Even Rangers wouldnt have messed up their finances this quickly after last time!

They won't survive to get back to the SPL. After a ridiculous decision this week by the corrupt SFA I think the end of all Scottish Football was sealed this week, most fans will now boycott Scottish Football in the future. I've been a season ticket at my club for over 30 years now along with my two kids. This season is the last. Why should I put money into a corrupt league where they all look after themselves.

A £7million loss for six months. Why won't the Scottish media report this? I wonder???

1. The independent tribunal last week was appointed by the SPL not the SFA.
2. I thought a huge number of fans had already been boycotting most clubs all season.
3. How do you know about the loss? Oh that's right, it's being reported in the media look:

You are right there has been a degree of corruption, a club forced to accept a transfer embargo judged in court to be illegal and the 'let us take some titles off you and we'll get you in to the 1st division'

Without getting too deep into the financial detail the point I was trying to make with the original post is that at least 14 teams from so called 'greatest league in the world' would love to match Rangers home crowds in Scottish Div 3.

It is not surprising when two clubs support is taken from the majority of 1 1/2 countries footballing fanbase. It is slightly similar in the north east. Due to the geographical nature of the country, Newcastle and Sunderland can dominate an area across to Carlisle, down to Middlesborough/North Yorkshire and do dominate their catchment area, which is bigger than most.

The North west in comparison has over 20 proffessional clubs.

Its like apples and oranges.

It is great support by Rangers fans BTW.

How have Celtic's gates been this year - I saw a game the other week and there were thousands of empty seats.

Average league attendance just under 46k, down around 5k from last season.
