Range before a round or not?

Wish my course had a decent range. Ours is just a steeply angled spare bit of ground (about 30-40 degrees downhill, left to right) only useful for blindly hitting shots into the distance. I do insist on doing some serious stretching before I go on the course.

Always hit a few balls on the practice ground irrespective of whether its a roll up or comp. The thing to bear in mind is that it is just a warm up and not to panic if you hit a few ones and certinly don't make it into a mini range system and try and correct the swing if there are some bad ones in there.

10-15 mins warm up, mainly a quick work through the bag but most shots are wedges, then a few chips and putts before heading onto the course, feel really lost if i play a different course and no range to warm up on first

ive seen ppl do the double club swing straight away without any warming up at all b4 doing it and pulling muscles etc

long time back had a partner do it in a medal and couldnt play his back hurt so much so i couldnt play either as i had nobody to mark my card

Nothing for me,

Usually 1-2 practice swings with the big dog before giving it a smash. Went through a patch this summer for 2 months it was par or better on the first. Don't want to waste the good one's on the range.

one of funniest things I've seen on a golf course was a guy going through his warm up routine before a scratch match.

to have done half that he did he would have to have been double jointed but the standing, cross-legged, bend and opposition twist with arms also bent and twisted was hilarious - even more so when he promptly duffed his tee-shot

:D :D

That just reminded of last year when I played in one of the County OOM events. One of the young stars from our county (was in England u16 squad) was playing that day.

Went to get my kit out of the car and he has a stretchy band attached to the tow hitch of his dad's car and was pulling and stretching his arms, shoulders and chest etc.

I asked him if he wanted a hand starting the car as i had jump leads in the boot?? Didn't get a nice reply to be honest!! :D

As a beginner I like to have a warm up on the range, after doing a little stretching, then letting about 20 to 30 balls go, nothing strenuous and nothing quick, I then go to the first tee and spend the next 9 holes slowly getting my eye in and relaxing. Then from 10 to 18 generally everything starts to work, if only I could find a 9 hole practice course right next to my 18 hole course.

There is an oriental gent that uses the range I go to. He seems to spend about 30 minutes stretching and warming up. Gets his shiny new clubs out of his shiny new bag and proceeds to hit some of the most artistic array of shanks, slices and tops I've ever seen. Every shot is accompanied by at least four rehersals. Definitely not one to be stuck behind on a Sunday morning on the course
