Radio 2 - 30 minute auction

We are all aware that CIN is the winner here and lots of kids will benifit from this auction and I applaud the actions of radio 2 and mr evans. I do however disagree with not being able to have the chance to take part in this event. The prize has gone to the man with the largest disposible cash amount. Surely deals such as this would be better off running for a longer time and be much fairer if we could all have an equal chance of winning. Maybe chris evans is more comfortable playing with a rich businessman than one of us hairy arsed commoners?

It's simple - this couldn't have been run over a longer period. The possibility of it happening at all didn't occur until yesterday morning after Lee Westwood offered his services to CIN and the CIN auctions are all time limited, as is the time the Beeb gives to them.
Maybe you could suggest it to Chris Evans for next year if LW or another of the pros can commit his time that far ahead.

Fairer to who exactly ? Why should the feelings of the UK's golfers have ANY bearing whatsover on how they run the auction ? It's about raising the maximum amount of money. If you, me and every other golfer in the country feel hard done by then it's tough.

AS for who Evans would rather play with, he's basically a hairy arsed commoner himself, just a rich one because he's made something of himself through hard work and talent

I look at it like this. The poppy appeal raises money for a fantastic cause as does CIN. However the poppy appeal doesn't discriminate, alienate and exclude 99% of the population. Everyone gets to put their donation in and everyone gets to wear a poppy regardless of size of donation, unlike the auction for things money cannot buy scheme run by bbc radio 2 which does just that.

CIN doesn't discriminate, anyone can contribute and there are thousands of ways of doing so. You can't win this one auction, big deal. Do you really think they should run it another way, probably make less money, just so you don't feel discriminated against ? "Sorry kids, no new wheelchairs this year, we didn't want to upset the golfers"

Colin please read the reply, I never said CIN discriminates I said the radio 2 auction does and the point I am trying to make is that I am more than willing to contribute to CIN but I am not in a position to participate in this scheme as I do not have 90k spare therefore I am in effect excluded from the chance to join in. I applaud the winner for his generosity. I however would be more than happy to put £20.00 in safe in the knowledge that I had the same chance as everyone else who put their 20 in of playing a round of golf with Lee Westwood, driving a ferrari, getting a Gok Wan makeover or indeed any other prize on offer if I was lucky. Do you not feel that the format employed excludes most of the population?

I agree it excludes the majority, but so what ? It's about raising the most money in the shortest time. I just don't understand why people are getting so upset about it, the point isn't to make golfers happy

We've got a lot of stuff going on in the hospital on Friday for CIN and I'll be donating accordingly so I have no qualms about giving or the charity itself. To be fair CIN isn't alone. When I lived in London Capital Radio did Help a London Child which was their pet campaign and every year they'd have some one off prizes (meeting pop start, sporting heroes etc) and would auction these off. Of course they always went for silly money. However they also gave listeners a chance to enter competitions with similar (and sometime better) prizes and it so opened it to all.

The problem here is the late notification and small window of opportunity Westwood and Evans gave the BBC and the public. However as CIN is a regular event, my argument would be to perhaps plan in advance in conjunction with celebrity supporters and their mamangement and find a way of making some very good prizes more of a carrot for joe public to support the cause even more
