Radiator covers

Looking to get some radiator covers to cover up the rads in the living room. Can’t find any decent ones at a decent price.
1) we got some big rads - 1800 and 1600 ones... any suggestions on where to get them such that it is not the cheap adjustable ones from Screwfix
2) got TRV valves on all rads, do they go inside the cover or outside. We don’t really adjust it everyday. My thinking was that if they go inside then they will cut off relatively quicky.

I'd recommend getting them made to order.

I have never understood the reason behind radiator covers.

The radiators are there to heat a room up but people want to hide them and partially stop them from doing the job they are supposed to do.

Yes this for me too, surely it makes the radiator less efficient, and if the heating engineer did a calculation before specifying that size of rad, by reducing the output you might not be able to heat the room satisfactorily, or it might push your gas/oil bill up?

If it’s because you don’t like the look of them maybe painting them to make a feature of them or changing them for something more architectural might be an option?

We had them done (to order) in several rooms and were very happy with the result.

As for the argument about decreasing efficiency...well, it may reduce the speed a room heats up, but it won't significantly decrease the performance of the heating system - in fact, it might even reduce draughts - and draughts make a room/house feel much colder than a slightly reduced ambient temperature!

Indeed! That's quite possibly why they are called 'convector' rads!

Nevertheless, the convection generates (or =) draught.

There are advantages/disadvantages to both/either type. But if covers are being consider, it's a pretty good assumption that those in place are not convector rads!

It is a convential waterfilled radiator. Does it affect it this badly?
Would be interesting to see what else to do with it if not cover it up.. Jr would love to put some graffiti, but not sure the Mrs the Mrs will allow it.
