Question Guys

That's why you are supposed to state that you are playing a handicap scoring round before hand.

I think you are allowed to put in 10 supplementary cards a year, but you are supposed to state beforehand not just stick your good scores in.

Never got this.. if he only submitted good cards his handicap would be harder for him and he wouldn't be a bandit so what's the issue

If someone goes out with the intention of playing a qualifying round and after a few bad holes decides that they are going to have a very poor score they could decide not to enter the card, if you did this in an official club comp then you would have an automatic increase as a N/R, if you return a number of N/R cards then the handicap committee will need to ascertain if you are trying to protect your handicap. It's not an issue of whether you are not seen as a Bandit, it's a matter of playing in accordance with the rules and spirit of the game.

I'd rather play golf with a guy that has handed his good cards in as apposed to somebody who is shooting the lights out in friendlies and never handing a card in because they aren't qualifiers.
Hats off to the guy for trying to be honest and obtain a genuine handicap that reflects what he is capable of.

Thanks Guys it was done as a supplementary card thus the 4 shot reduction I know now to declare it before hand ( I did declare it to my playing partners thus no Gimmes were given in the round) but did not know I had to inform the PRO (Dont think he was working that day anyway).

As my friends said i should have waited and won a comp with the way I was playing as they knew a big score was coming Net 59 :).
But I felt I was cheating the system just to wait till a comp to get the reduce I was capable of. Anyway I am pleased now to be on 22 and I hope I can continue so decrease it my aim for the year was to get to 22 might have to change that now and see if I can get to 20..

One thing now is at least I know the rules :)

Your attitude is to be commended and if more people treated the game like yourself then the HCs would be a lot better - enjoy

I also commend you for your attitude.

One thing I would add is that we all know knocking it about with mates is far easier than in a medal with a card in your hand.

As I would suggest most on hear would advocate more rounds counting each year counting towards your handicap instead of the 3 needed now for a truer reflection of a handicap.

When it comes to handicaps, it can be a tetchy subject to some. If you had shot that score in a comp, especially a board comp you would of lived with the bandit tag for many a year.
Yes as been stated, technically you never went through the correct procedure re putting in a card, but your intentions were entirely honourable, and that will and has stood you in good stead.
