qualifying events

just been flicking through my gc diary to see when i can play in qualifiers to get my h/c down..

Ive noticed they have a Q after them so im assuming they are qualifiers. My biggest gripe is that every week there is a mideweek qualifier but i am at work so unable to play in them although they are anytime but it may be a sturggle to get a competative round in after work or find other players. Of a weekend they are not as often and only run between a certain time which is ok about the time.

Ive also noticed we have some other medals on weekends but dont have a Q next to them so am i right to pressume these wont contribute towards my hc? As if this is the case i doubt i will bother playing in them as im not fussed about winning a comp i just want to get my hc down

It could be that your club assumes that people know that medals are qualifiers so don't need a Q whereas stablefords might not be qualifiers - for whatever reason.

unless they are pairs, or team, events, or in some other way restricted such that they cannot be Q comps, they should be Q comps..........

Does your club run sort of order of merit? Could be that the Q refers to events that count towards that and all the non Q events are just ordinary medals/stablefords? Either way though, all singles events in your club diary should be qualifiers as far as your handicap is concerned.

no it says things like

sat 28th - EGU MEDAL (Q)
sat 12th - MEDAL
sat 7th MEDAL (Q)
Sat 28th VERCOE CUP ((Q)
sun 29th - EGWA MEDAL



thats what i mean some medals have a q next to them and others dont. They havent got any stablefords on there as qualifiers and to be fair they seem few and far between which is a shame i like stableford . These are just some random dats ive pulled out of the diary

I know i only just noticed which is why i asked here i wont be down the GC till weekend after next as this weekend im on a stag do so will prob forget by then

Also sorry - didn't notice the question mark on your post. Yes - you cannot be cut as a result of playing in non-qualifiers.

I have fell foul of this in our club.

To go in the majors comps for the following year you need to have played a minimum of 6 'qualifier' white tee comps. I played in about 12 white tee comps last year, but not all are 'qualifier'.

It was explained that 'qualifier' comps are played off full handicap only (can be medal or stableford), whereas non-qualifier are when playing off 3/4,7/8th etc.

So not all white tee comps are the same. It may change from club to club, but thats the dance at ours.

You can be cut/go up in both though (I think).

Handicaps cannot be adjusted from comps played with less than full handicap - unless scores are recorded with full handicap applied and CSS calculated from them.
CONGU take a very dim view of clubs depriving comps of qualifying status by imposing less than full handicap allowance. They see it as being against the spirit and intent of the handicapping system and an abuse of handicapping rules.
I wonder how many clubs are still running comps with less than full handicap allowance and why?

thanks for clarifying that after becoming a club member again last june for 1st time since 2005 the system has changed a bit and still taking a bit to grasp the full extent of how it works! Was used to all cards under h/cap getting cut on as general play if nothing else!
