At various stages you could have put together a decent Ryder Cup team with some of these, but they are all fighting for their professional lives at European Q-school this year.

Paul Broadhurst
Alastair Forsyth
Gary Orr
Joakim Haeggman
Nick Dougherty
Simon Wakefield

Makes you think what a tough standard it is to stay on tour... good luck to them all, but I'm really rooting for Nick Dougherty

yeah it just shows you how tough it is and how tough it is for first time tour graduates to keep their card after the first year on tour.

also it's good to see the likes of george coetzee easily keeping his card after earning it last year.

Nick Dougherty is unquestionably a nice guy but one who made only a handful of cuts in almost 30 tour starts (if i remember his stats correctly). life on tour is tough and your status is measured in Euros. I'm sure Birmingham City had a lot of very talented players hence Wolves had an additional point at the end of last season and that's why they were relegated. that's pro sport, isnt it

In fact Nick Dougherty made only 1 cut all season. But his form went to pieces after the sudden death of his mother a couple of years ago, so I really feel for the guy and think he deserves some good to come his way.

I'd like to see Dougherty come back to some kind of form. I do feel for anyone that has had a tour card and is in danger of losing it. Not quite so bad if you haven't enjoyed the thrill of the main tour and your going for your card - what you've never had you've never missed and all that, but to be a tour regular and in most of the cases of the listed players - tour winners, the thought of a year out or the challenge tour must be galling. Them is the rules I know but not something I'd relish

It gives us an idea as to why so many athletes suffer from depression, losing your tour card must feel like you've lost your job, and to have to go through that process must be very tough mentally, Dougherty said himself that he hasn't enjoyed playing golf this year I feel sorry for him hopefully he can keep his card

I know they're reasonably well known players but "Quality"..?

They may have been one day but the fact that they're at Q-School surely means they've lost the quality part from their game.

Good luck to them though.....

I,d love to see nick win his card. I saw him at golf live and he seemed a thoroughly nice guy. Benn barham is our local guy, isaw him about a week before he left for tour school and he said that he was feeling good and then he finished 4th at las colinas.

I hope nick Dougherty makes it for his own sanity.

I'd wondered what happened to Alistair Forsyth, I watched him on the challenge tour then he qualified and was getting good recognition on the tour, wonder why he's dropped so far down he has to qualify again?

It's a tough life as a struggling pro and the frightening thing is if you could only see their shots at a range for example without knowing who was hitting, you'd be hard pushed to tell any of them apart.

There are also guys who lost their card and haven't went to Q school and will rely on invites for next year, Oliver Wilson being 1, he has had a torrid season also.

It's also possible for players to regain cards with invites and co sanctioned challenge/euro tour events, it worked for Marc Warren last year and failed at Q School.

It jus shows that no one is too good, feel for Dougherty in particular who is a proven winner on tour and I hope his fortunes turn for the better again.

I don't really think you understand how ignorant a view that is. I spoke with Alistair Forsyth about a month ago and his words not mine. If and I appreciate if, he'd had 4 less double bogies throughout the season at different stages he'd have kept his tour card. Its a dam fine fine between success and heartache on tour.

200k Euros in 29 events on the main and Challenge Tours doesn't strike me as a Man in form.
Averaging less than 7000 euros per event..

Craw, I'm not saying they've suddenly become crap, I'm not saying there's not a fine line between sucess and failure.
What I am saying is that these Guys can probably still hit all the shots but maybe don't have the Mental strength to compete at that level. 140th on the main Tour and 65th on the Challenge - from 20 and 9 events.
Why did he make those doubles?

And many on the list did even worse than Forsyth.......

Why else are they all there? - because they didn't play well enough throughout the year.
No insult to any of them but that's the bare bones of it. Where's the quality?

Andy Sullivan who is currently second, won a big amateur competition at my place this year, including a round of 60. Beat the previous course record set by Steve Richardson by three. Think he could be a good prospect.

Blimey

60 round your pad - that's going some. Was that the day before we were there in the Summer..?

Oh no, I am sure he would have struggled like the rest of us with those pin positions .;) He missed a 10 footer on the par 3 ninth, his 18th, for a 59.

In the competition the day before we played no one broke par. Just shows how well Gary (Region3) played.

Problem is that room for Tom Lewis and all the new hotshots only comes from other players dropping off the list. There is only room for so many. Jack Nicklaus bemoaned the day that the US PGA Tour changed the number of players who got a card from 60 to 125. He felt that it bred mediocrity in a lot of players who could finish in mid table and make a nice living without ever really contending.

Just catching up with the scores. Interesting to see Jarmo Sandelin and Emanuele Canonica also missing out. They used to be among the regular performers on the main tour.
