Q Fairway Golf Membership?

I had the De Vere equivalent before they were taken over by Q Hotels as I could use it for golf for me and spa treatments for Mrs Colch. The first year I paid 275 for 100 points, the second year it went up to 325 for 100 points and I cancelled partly due to them putting it up to 375 for the third year but also because they changed a lot of the things you could spend the points on. Originally it was possible to hire buggies and book any spa treatment using the points but they then took buggy hire off the list and reduced the list of treatments available without telling me part way through a year. I used points at Dunston Hall near Norwich and Belton Woods in Lincolnshire. A midweek twilight round was 2 points and a weekend round was 7 points.

I had it for about 5 years mainly for taking clients to either Cameron House or Slaley Hall. Dropped it this year as most clients can't accept "hospitality" due to their company anti-bribery policies changing.

As ColchesterFC mentions above, it was initially very flexible however over the years the price has gone up and the restrictions have came in. Last time I went to Slaley Hall I couldn't use my points on the Hunting course, only the Priestman.

We were also informed recently that Q Hotels had sold Cameron House and The Carrick to venture capitalists so no doubt the points won't be usable there in the future.

Strange timing but I got an email this afternoon from Dunston Hall golf memberships saying that as a former member they had a special offer on where I could rejoin for 375 pounds for a full 7 day membership rather than points based. This would give me unlimited golf, 20% off food and beverages across all Q Hotels, 75 pounds of golf shop vouchers, 6 free rounds at other Q Hotels and access to members only tee times. Plus I can finally get a handicap and play in comps. Just trying to decide if I will play enough to make it worthwhile.

Sounds like a decent offer, even if you only joined for a year

I wouldn't bother with Dunston. It's unplayable from about November to April - a mudbath then you have the 5-6 hour rounds at weekends where you get behind hotel guests and they won't let you through.

And not forgetting the 6 week summer holidays where you are also looking at 5-6 hours for a round IF you can book a tee time. I'm fortunate in that I have a job where I play most of my golf during the week so won't have the hassle of weekend rounds but as I only managed to play 7 rounds of golf last year I'm not sure that it's worth it although I would like to be able to get a proper handicap again.

nice information for me

Seems a reasonable offer. Lots of clubs are offering flexible points based memberships which I like as it makes being a member convenient for a lot of people who can't play every week or have difficult working patterns
