When this came out earlier in the year mine i think was to have more fun on the course and enjoy it. Well a few months ago that wasn't happening and nearly decided to give it up as in the post " enough is enough " , well after a few words from some whose golfing knowledge and abilities i respect one who has sadly passed recently and decide to carry on.

The thing that hit me was looking at the graph on whodidido and seeing my handicap go from 9.2 in 2009 to 13.6 in 2012, so a kick in the arse was needed.

I have booked 5 lessons and have had 4 in my 2 medal rounds in that time i've had a net 72 and a net 70 which has gave me a 0.9 cut and im now down to 12.7 and i'm now enjoying my golf again.

Hows everyone else doing.

Trying to consolidate my Cat 1 status - failing miserably.
Almost certainly up to 5.4 now - unless todays Comp is deemed reductions only (doubtful)
So, Weds 19th Sept - next Comp - could see me out of Cat 1 and back up to 6......
Won't be happy.

Mine was to get down to somewhere near cat 1, say about 6.0ish. Changed jobs, got less playing and practice time and started the trail of 0.1 gains and no cuts as a result.

Swings a mess, putting like elf with a shitzu nipping at me knackers and managed one decent comp round all year thats got me back to 9.1.

Going back to the drawing board starting this week, lessons booked in and going to work hard through it in the winter months now work has settled. Then try again next year to knock 2 or 3 shots off the handicap,

Good stuff Steve .. Good to see ya have the spark back again

my main aim this year was to get to, & then be constantly be able to play to 8, & possibly have a look at 7 ... Have succeeded in the 1st part , i reckon im a decent 8 now , got to 7.8 & have missed 3 glorious chances to possibly make it closer to 7 ..

4 over on the par 5 18th tee Sunday morning, 0 for 13 in birdie putts (6 very makeable) gave me 10 tap in pars ,(oh & a 3 putt bogey :() only to double bogey the last & sign for 78 nett 70 .. frustrating, but the golf is there..

Raging with myself because i have not practiced once this year , i need a short game lesson or 2 aswell , just to tidy it up ..

plan for next year is to shelve society golf in favour of a "best golfer series" its a series of juniour scratch cups .. need to practice more tho

I think I pledged something along the lines of being less focussed on the numbers and to try and enjoy the game. Mostly succeeded but now I like the number I'm focussed on keeping it there!

My goal was to get to 12 by the end of September, and I did that by mid-August. Only 12.4 though, and now having lessons to rebuild elements of a very, very inconsistent swing, so not sure how long I'll stay there! The next goal is single figures by next May, although my Pro reckons December. Fingers crossed for some good Sept/Oct/Nov weather to help with outdoor practice!

What kind of a website is this? Haha

Haha your right cracking site ,meant HOWDIDIDO.

Have been working hard on my game between lessons and i'm seeing the benefits of it,starting to hit my draw again after hitting a massive slice which i don't no where it came from after beeing a natural drawer of the ball.

I think the biggest think is getting my confidence back to a level i can trust what i'm doing, i nearly lost it on saturday as stared to get ahead of myself a bit but rallied the last 3 holes ,i still left a few shots out there tho which is annoying but you've got to start some place.

Lokking forward to Saturdays medal already.

My goal was to get to 15 by the end of September. In April when I entered my first club comp this year it was 18.7. I'm now down to 14.9
This is my first summer of 'full' golf, 2 -3 times a week so I feel I have done well!
Think I'm at a standstill at the moment though so I might book some lessons with the club pro. Never had lessons before so hopefully it will help no end!!

I pledged (on the GM page) to half my handicap and break 70 in a medal. My driving caused issues and my h/cap went up by one.

However, working on short game I got a 0.5 cut on Sun am then 0.1 back on in the PM, just need to do that consistently for the h/cap. 71 on Sunday so only 2 off the magic figure. Still keen to do it if I can get on the fairway now that the short game is better.

As i started the year at 19 I'm sure I said I wanted to get to 18 (as it started a few comments about you should never get more than 1 shot a hole) . Well after 3 lessons with a different pro it clicked and I ended up with 5 cuts over the next 3 months ( not to mention a good few returns in the sweep & twos) I ended up at 16.4 And still got the smile when I'm asked my handicap before games

Steve, firstly I'm glad you've found your mojo again and enjoying your golf. I understand your frustrations watching your handicap go the opposite way as mine has did the same.

I had the sole aim on starting the season at 15.5 to get lower than 12.3, I played decent through the winter and was happy with my game, I met the Machrihanish crowd at Dunaverty and took the dosh with 44 points and was feeling good about my game. Season started, 2 0.1 increases than a 0.3 cut followed by umpteen medals in the buffer and 3 0.1's I felt i was playing steady in the medals and lacked a bit of luck and consistency. Last 5 competitive rounds have seen me up 0.1 every time except a non qualifier on Sat so currently at 16.1 and showing no form currently.

I'm at the stage I'll see the season out and take stock, I have really enjoyed my golf regardless this year generally but the last few rounds have got me down a bit, I just need a wee pick up and a decent round to get going. I have tonnes of golf through September including 3 medals and just 2 medals left after that so unless I secure a cut I could be off 17 come 2013 but that's a bit off yet.

No idea what I said I would like, but got down to 7 from 12, back up to 7.8 though, but that's ok, really enjoying myself on the course when its not raining too much, think I wanted to break 70 also, but best is 70 which I'm really pleased with so all in all I'm pleased.
Glad you got the golfing bug back Steve, it would be worse if we couldn't play :)

I started the year playing off 10 and set myself three goals under the vague auspices of "PYB".

1) Get to single figures - achieved this in the first medal of the year so revised to "finish the year closer to 5 than 10" so on course for that (just)
2) Win my club championship - was second last year so this maybe wasn't quite as arrogant a goal as it seems and I was fortunate enough to be able to achieve it. Great to see my name up on that board.
3) Break 70 - haven't done this. Had a 73 in a medal and 72 in a bounce match and a host of 74s and 75s but never really threatened 70.... so far!

Glad your enthusiasm is back and game coming on too.

I started year on 10.1 had hopes of single figures but it's just not happened failed to break 80 in a comp (sss 70) so haven't beating h/cap although did sneak a soilitary 0.2 cut when CSS was up to 72.
Currently sat at 10.5 so go up rather than down still at least 4 more qualifiers to go at so not given up hope but currently looking more like consolidating 11 rather than heading back to 10 even.

My target (as always) is either +7 or 14 and once again I have failed to achieve anywhere near either!
Having less fun out there which i didn't think was even possible and still can't seem to stop myself.

Got some new iron shafts and on the lookout for some decent heads so have a good excuse until I find some.

I wanted to get to 10 which I've done but not for much longer if I play like I practiced tonight. Absolute horror and even worse than my chipping (shows how bad it is). Putting it down to a bad session as the ball striking had been good so I can't become a bad player in one session. I would like to get to 9 but think it might be too late for this season

Have the bug back again which i'd lost for a long time its not a chore to play anymore. The lessons helped as we did a video one and it showed how bad my swing was compared to where it is now.

I'm targeting 11 before the end of the season but if not then i've got all winter to work on it.

Thanks for the comments guys and good luck with your own PYB .
