Ok guys just wanted to see what your average putting stats are for your round of golf as i am interested in comparing my puttin stats to see if I match certain handicaps.

Please vote on the poll and then if you may, comment on whether you think your putting stats are right for your handicap.

MPV

Good Survey. Mine in actually 32.2 putts per round, which according to a programme I use (Scoresaver2) is equal to a handicap of 12 (I play off 13)

I've only recorded 3 rounds on SS2 so far and I'm averaging 29 puts per round. That equates to a scratch handicap - I'm off 10.
Problem with this stat is that I quite often miss greens by a few yards but then chip up close and 1 putt.
So my GIR is not good but putts stat is great. If I hit more GIR then my putts stat will suffer.

Coming round to the feeling that the only stat that matters to me is how many I've taken after the last putt drops.

Imurg

Yes, thats true, my greens in regulation stat is 31% which gives me a handicap (for GIR) of 10)
Don't worry about the anomaly, it's how they do it on the European Tour :)

Im not sure but I could make a rough guess but Im more concerned with putt length, difficulty of the read and the result, for example a 30' putt to the lip of the hole is 2 putts but a much better standard than a 6' putt going 3' passed the hole and just making the return off the lip because first you missed the putt and second you only just got a drop in. Putting stats can look cool sometimes but may not be that cool on the lawn.

My hope with putting is to always do it in two and no more (doesnt always work but I have far less 3 putts each year than most) I strive to get a good read on putts and pace.

I can take 30 putts in a round and think my putting was poor and I can take 36 and think it was great putting, it depends on the distance Im putting from and the difficulty of read.

So in those respects number stats mean little to me.

your the same as me then . i had 31 putts last week but i got to 3 foot and in from 4 bunkers so that helped loads.

Varying recently & not as good as it was. But occasionally I put like I know I can. But I put all this down to not currently playing enough.

Handicap can be affected by putting obviously. But even high handicapers may be strong putter & some low handicap players can be very poor at putting.

Well Scoresaver says I'm currently averaging 32.58. However my best is 29 and worst 38 over an 18 month period.

Once the greens speed up a bit I'll be happy. I do think of myself as a reasonable putter and would be looking to averaage between 31 & 32 per round this year. Thats competition rounds that these figs relate to and not bounce ganes.

Averaging 33 per round which isnt good enough. Did get a tip off the pro to move the ball forward in the stance to get a better topspin roll on the ball and i'm not 3 putting as much now. I do seem to hit smoother putts now but i'm lipping out and shaving the hole more too so I guess I have to concentrate a little more on the line and dont over-read things. It'll come together soon

I've only just started recording putts and the three rounds were 36,35,and 34 so average is 35. Hoping that will improve as the season progresses.
I don't know what handicap putts of 35 relates to though.

Golfmmad.

I stopped keeping stats as I was reading too much into them. My GIR and FIR % is that of a single figure hcap, but I was averaging about 38 putts per round, which was something like a 25 hcap.
Lately my whole game is off, so my putting doesn't seem that bad in comparison!

Currently I average 32 putts off 17 yet for January and February I averaged 30. I feel like I'm putting a lot better now though and the only reason the figure is higher because I'm hitting more GIR's yet land very far away from the hole. It's been 4 rounds since I 3-putted! :D

I'm going to start using that ScoreSaver thing I think, and I recorded my stats yesterday. 16.1 handicap, 33 putts, which I thought was bad, but then it does appear to be about right for my handicap. However, 10 out of 18 GIR for me, which I was very pleased with.

Anyway, will go and try and get the software now...
