Putting
And how often, after said glory shot is attempted, do you stand and think quiety to yourself "goddamnit why didnt I just chip out sideways?" :D
9/10 to be honest !!

Although like Murph says, the times the shot doesn't come off, the ball often pops out onto the short stuff anyway, but with a scuff on the ball.

As for keeping stats, I don't think there's any point or relevence to my game as I'm approx a 20 h'cap (although I am thinking of downloading and using Scoresaver or similar ) just to keep a track record of my scores for the round, not specifically GIR or Putts. What's the point in celebrating only having 27 putts, if it's taken you 80 shots getting to the greens.

Anyone recommend any software ??

I have to say I disagree completely with justoneuk (but then you knew I was going to say that didn't you).
My waters told me so...... :D

Knowing your putting stats won't stop you a) 3-putting that next hole b) stop you hooking your next tee shot. I don't mind having 36 putts if I've found 18 greens in regulation although I'd be disappointed that my approach irons didn't leave any tap-ins :D likewise I don't mind having less putts if my irons are off but my chipping is hot. I never feel any pressure putting...I just hit it at the hole and take it if it drops.

The most valuable stat in my opinion (should I ever keep one) would be how many up-and-downs I make from around the green. I want to get up and down every time, poor chipping and poor bunker play seem to cost the most shots, and when they are hot then the putting stats drop without any effort on my part.

In answer to the original question: Any round with less than 36 putts is acceptable in my opinion. I'd only be able to guess what I averaged over my past 10 rounds, 33 maybe :D

I dont 'keep' stats, or analyse them, but I know that I'm usually between 32 & 34 putts per round.

I dont 3 putt very often, 2 in a round would be bad, but perhaps hole 2/3 good single putts, and chip it very close a couple of times at least.

Can't see the point without GIR. On average I hit pretty much no GIR, but my chipping is red hot, and hence so are my putting stats. What it highlights is that my iron play is rubbish.

Or your driving's crud and leaves you in the rough so you can't find the green.

As I've said before, keeping stats is fine, I tried the months trial of SS2 and decided that I didn't need to use it further. I know what parts of my game are good, decent, ropey or downright bad. I don't need this confirmed by a lot of numbers. And Unless you closely analyse all the stats together they become useless. Knowing you take 32 putts tells you nothing about your game.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against stat-keepers. If you feel it helps then that's great. But please take everything into account otherwise you may be wasting your time.

Actually I have changed my mind about my iron play after last night. I have now decided I am too good at ball striking. I base my game on not middleing irons, but last night found the elusive sweet spot too many times.
I missed nearly every green by blowing it out the back. 175 to the middle, solid 6i, wow, that isn't going to stop any time soon.
Managed 13 putts on the front nine. Chipping still hot.
