Putting yips?

I have struggled with my putting for over 15years. I hate 2-3ft putts with a passion.

I used a broom handle for a while which have me a better rythm, but I found it harder from long range to judge pace so in turn left myself with more of the nasty length putts.

I can go rounds without missing a single short putt, then I can go out and completely miss the cup nearly all day from short range. I am never comfortable over a short putt even if I have holed everyone all day. That's the YIPs, this then effects your stroke and you don't hit putts like you normally do from just an extra couple of feet.

A lot of top players went to the long putter as they found it easier, keegan Bradley was one of these. Then some went to fix poor technique. Garcia had the YIPs, Langar had them worse than anyone I have seen on camera. Watson struggled and continues to.

No, it's not the yips. Anxiety over short putts, and then being a poor putter doesn't make you yippy.

Being good at short putts, and then being jabbed in the hands with an electric cattle prod makes you yippy.

I've use a counter balanced putter with longer than standard grip. Does this imply I was struggling with the yips. Your notion that seniors and those on other tours are using longer putters to fight the yips is at best misguided. In my opinion though is la la land. They are still perfectly capable of shooting under par rounds even when not always playing well. This relies on getting up and down regularly and you can't do that if you are yipping from 2-3 feet. Same old points on recurring threads.

....Garcia had the YIPs...

Not the Putting Yips! Re-gripping irons ones perhaps, but that's not really yips in my book. I've seen 3 definite cases of yips though and it's very obvious that it's yips as opposed to the 'poor putter/putting' label that can be assigned to all the other players mentioned in the thread - including Els and Feherty's comment!

As for the OP; it was just another of Del's usual twaddle based on connecting totally unconnected 'facts'! The players concerned never had the Yips - they just putted better with the longer putter!

I had a severe case of the yips for years - then discovered a putting technique in 2006 and have been putting "yip-free" since then. And - the best part about my technique is that it works anchor-free.
Go to ( kissyouryipsgoodbye.com ) and check it out.

I have a (Dominant Hand Theory of the yips) and I hope I can help many golfers who have the same "form" of the yips that I had. Just give my technique a try and I will let the result speak for itself.

And your credentials for posting such a blatant plug  I assume you have a string of satisfied top level standard players in your stable?

Not yet "Homer" - I just put my website up.
I need to increase the awareness of my (anchor free) putting technique so golfers who have the yips can give it a try.

And if their yips are "triggered" by the physical movement of their dominant hand during the putting stroke like mine was - I think I can help many golfers cure their yips just as I cured mine.

And if you know of any golfers who are struggling with the yips - tell them about my technique and have them give it a try. I hope my technique will be as successful for them as it has been for me.

I had/have the yips over long putts.

Hopefully stopped it by reverting to the claw.
It was an uncontrollable stab halfway through backswing of a putt. Hated it.

The problem is, most people who claim to have the yips simply aren't very good putters. There is a very very big difference. A very very small minority actually suffer from the yips. Most people would cure their "yips" by simply practicing.

But for those that do have the real yips - and I've known 3 - then anything is worth trying!

One of those eventually found 'his' solution - 1-handed left-handed! That's taking 'taking the dominant hand out of play' to the extreme!
