What is the maximum distance putt you expect yourself to make?

Lets say there is no break but it's slightly up slope so you can give it some.

I've got to say its only about 3 feet for me, I do sink some from further away but these are the putts i expect myself to make. If anything under 3ft misses in these conditions i'd feel i've dropped a shot.

8ft I would say if it is totally straight as you say.

I had some severe putting issues, witnessed by Sammmebee (sorry if I spelt it wrong) and Murphthemog and worked bloody hard on concentrating on keeping the putter flat and making a smooth stroke with a decent follow through.

It worked for me.

Probably 5 or 6 ft.

I find the more I think about it and dither over these distance/type putts the worse it gets.

I was very pleased with my 30ft, with a major left to right break, on Saturday for birdie.

6 feet.
Anything more than that and at our (general) standard you're going to miss as many as you make.
Inside 6 feet I would be unhappy if I missed.

Depends how wellI feel I'm putting.

At Gloucester 2007 I couldn't miss from 12ft & under. Recently I'd miss a barn door & have been known to miss from a couple of feet.

The odd thing is I can sink them in the shop even when the putting area is less than even.

In reality I'd hope to make all 4ft & a percentage of 5ft to 6ft putts

When I first got the spider and the itsy bitsy I couldn't miss from 10 feet and in. That has now come down to about 6 feet!!

I'm pretty confident truth be told on anything over 2 feet. Leave me a 18 inch to two foot and I have all sorts of gremlins

I expect everything to go down 20' or less, I expect everything else to be either in the hole or so close that I dont have to worry about the next one.Doesnt always happen but frequently does.

wow, we must have some good putters on the forum.

I think i should practise the 5-10ft putts more, get my confidence up and then i'm sure i'll expect to drain them.

I've got to be honest, i really dont practise putting anywhere near as much as I should.

Well if its a straight putt and uphill then any distance up to 15-20 ft I would expect to make , thats not to say I would but certainly I would be less than happy if I didnt.

I think some of us set very high expectations.

I thought the pro's only hole out about 50% of the time from 6 ft.

Anyway, I holed a 50 footer today, so anything iside this is now gimme territory, right?

I expect to hole every putt I have, as I do every shot I take - the fact that I do or don't is another matter.....

Thats a great attitude, good on you!

And if we did not think make the putt, then we wouldn't make 40 & 50 ft putts at all.

I always do better on putts when there is loads of break, its when there is no break or you cannot be sure if there is any, then that's when I've got problems.

I remembered this out on the course today (the usual four absolutely dreadful holes, balanced by four I was really pleased with) so I did a test.

Unfortunately I mishit so only putt 37 yards (nowhere near a hole of course), I'll do better next time.

Glad someone mentioned this.

On my first putting lesson the pro put 4 balls down at 4ft 6ft 8ft and 10ft. I actually hold all of them. But on the re-run I only holed the first two.

He explained that according to Peltz(sp) anything over 6ft only has a 50% chance of going in the hole, and those figures are taken from the PGA tour.

So to anwer the question, anything upto 6ft I would expect to hole, and anything over, I won't lose sleep over it.

I would expect to hole from 3ft and in thats about it,if a 10 footer gets close ill take it

As you guess i am a poor putter, iam doing a hour a week practise now and seeing results,i just spent a year and a half on the long game and wedges to get me to 8,now its putting
