Putting out in sweeps?

Have you never seen it then ?

No. I very rarely give/take Gimmies unless they're tap ins that don't require to be lined up from different angles etc.

I don't like Gimmies anyway, it defeats the point of the game.

On a side note, how many times have you seen a Gimmie length putt missed? I've seen loads.

the prize money was only ever going to buy a round of drinks, but due to prize money we agreed it was best all round to prevent any arguements, works well and my putting has improved..lol

I love having to hole out everything , makes medal and comp putting do less stressful as its the norm

I quite agree and the 2-3 foot area is something I work hard on and consider myself proficient at and its something I feel gives me an advantage over quite a few in our groups who are a bit iffy. Come th the medal there's that added degree of confidence as well. I'd prefer all of our roll ups to be hole out. Can't see the Saturday one changing though

My experience on this - the winter sweep I played in with around 16 - 20 other guys had the rule that if it was " inside the grip " of the putter that was good enough.
Their was another sweep which ran and some of us played in that, said everything must be holed out. That made some of our games rather awkward as some were holing out everything and others just picking up, there was a couple of awkward moments when playing partners forgot this and went to scoop your ball back to you as it was almost in oops :o

My opinion was that everything should be holed out as this gives you more practice and you never take anything for granted, can only make you a better player. imho

If there is money on it then its putt out everything and as there are usually more that one group you have no idea what the other group is doing as a gimme.

The stakes can be quite high here...won 100 quid at the weekend which is the normal pot so its worth having and working for.

IMO £100 1st place winning for a friendly 'roll-up' is too much as it inevitably will change the nature of play from friendly competitive where win or no-win doesn't really matter to something rather different.
