Putting lesson

I've had a putting lesson and then loads of "MOT" checks just in passing or when I'm playing with one of our pros just to make sure a bad habit hasn't crept back in.

I tended to get my eyeline too far over the ball, this would lead to all sorts....pushes & pulls. Literally 2 minutes with a putting mirror and that was sorted. I'm the sort of golfer where if I see what it SHOULD look like then I can make the changes easily enough.

nope never, then again its was always certainly the strongest part of my game

putting hundreds of hours practising on the putting green
certainly helped

but its defiantly a neglected part of ppls games to seek help for

very rarely did i ever see the pro or assistants at my club give putting lessons, could count on 1 hand. & a cpl of those were just showing his son putting drills

not once did i ever see either of my boss's give a putting lesson when i worked at the other club.

and the only time i ever showed anyone was a group of school kids when they came for a go round our par 3 course and it was very limited as the were there for fun an not to be schooled and a cpl of them were just beginning and i just showed them how a little when they asked (as my bosses said i wasnt really allowed to teach them anything, 1. they'd want them to have to pay them for a lesson if they want to learn, 2. also in case i showed them something incorrectly)

I have not had a putting lesson I think my fundamentals are ok and when I have an off day I put it down to lack of practice. On a good day I can see every putt going in before I hit it and they usually get pretty close to doing just that.

When you say putting lesson would you concentrate more on the stroke, grip, and posture or on alignment, green reading, feel for pace etc.?

I guess it depends where the student is failing but which is the most important?

I dont care how good a putter you are,but my guess you would
have to be in the "tiger" mould to make birdies at my local
course, they are the pits, infact I think Stevie Wonders the
new greenkeeper.

Yes have had a few over the years, fundamentally my stroke is fine but without regular checks I fall into bad habits, mainly with alignment or should I say perceicved alignment, hence why I was asking after the "putting tutor" tool of late.

That said I know currently its one of the stronger parts of my game so gets the least attention, I spend more time chipping than putting on the chipping green!

I had one last year. tbh, I didn't actually learn too much.

The only reason I had it was because I had never had one before and wanted to check there weren't any major issues.

The pro confirmed I had good setup, stance, posture and stroke etc.

The only criticism he had was my distance control on longer putts. He said because I have a smooth putting stroke on the longer, and uphill putts, I need to give it more of a hit rather than stroke it.

tbh, my putting does blow hot and cold though. Some days anything inside 10ft is a gimme. Others I'll miss every 4ft putt going.

It's probably the part of my game that's the least consistent. Something I've started to work on this year already.

Didnt get lesson but do putting drills once or twice a week usualy spend 30-45 min , put tees 3ft from the hole at north south east & west positions . make 3 out of 3 to move on & move that tee to 6 feet then. do the 4 points at 3 feet then start again at 6 feet . make 2 out of 3 at 6feet at the 4 points then move on to 9 feet ,make 1 of 3 at 9 feet then pick up the tee, also place 1 tee at each end of putting green & play to the tee to improve distance control.. putting is pretty ok . confident enouf on the 3 & 6 footers in the round..what you think of this bob ,, to do away with the boredom i play par 2 on the 2 longest holes on the putting green. 1 putt -1 , 3 putts +1 etc, play it 9 times each way (18) +3 is my best score ever

So you play one long hole and back another one, 9 times?

Not really a fan of that, but if it helps, do it :)

I have been trying to go round our putting green 1-9 and then 9-1 after each round. I've set myself the goal of 36 putts and won't finish until I've got "par".

The next step is to do it under "par".

They move the holes around fairly regularly so it does keep a bit of variety in it.

Bob gave me a good drill for the practice putting green, if you have one,

If the ball does not go down the hole move your ball approx 1 club length and putt again, keep doing this on each hole, it's really good to give you confidence on those 4/5 feet ones.

Still rubbish at putting but that's probably 'cause I'm blind as a bat.

Iv never had lessons for anything yet....
My putting is a pretty strong part of my game...At worst i might have 1... 3 putt a round...Where im falling down is destructive shots off the tee...

I think that everyone has there own unique way of putting and holding a putter....
I practice my putting very frequently...At least 2 hours on greens and around 1 hour a night for 3 nights a week at home....Seems to be paying off at the moment...I 2 putted every green i made the weekend...Pity i made a mess of 3 holes with errant drives

My putting is ok one day awfull from short distance the next.I seem to be be better at long putts,i am terrible from 3 ft sometimes and missed more than my fair share, however i do get 2,3 or 4 birdies a round.I know when i learn to putt my scores will tumble.I have never and cant ever see myself getting a lesson on putting because i should be able to work it out myself.

I had one, learnt the basic stance, grip and swing.

Took a V-Easy to help my body understand the unity of the body though. I have tried but I am sure I would not have got it without the V-Easy!

Everyone that comes for a series of lessons gets at least one on putting, usually alignment is the major fix, then pace and then posture.

I estimate that 10% of my lessons are on putting.

I would say that improving your putting is the fastest way to a handicap reduction
