I am a big watcher of people playing golf. I love to watch how they get round a course.
But when I see otherwise good players putt so badly, I cringe.
So my question is, how many people have had a putting lesson?

I've had one :D recently I've not putted so well but that's down to poor reading, poor conviction and poor me (sometimes I feel robbed!!!). Things will hopefully get better soon just a little more time on a real green and not a mat required!

I've had a couple over the years and they've been useful.

My putting's back on track (at the moment) after a couple of horror shows and a complete nightmare. I went back to my old Ping putter from a Yes putter and haven't really looked back.

I know it isn't the putter's fault I putted badly but, having played with the Ping for so many years, it just seems to suit me.

Or more likely after 15 years putting with it, I'm just used to it.

I fail to see what is difficult about putting.

Can you hit it on the intended line?
Can you hit it the intended distance?

These are pretty easy compared to most other golf shots.

Surely the real difficulty comes from green reading? How much can a pro help with that?

I have had a couple and they have shown problems in my setup and swing that only an observer would spot. So my thinking is if I knock one shot per round off by better putting thats one shot nearer single figurs.

Please don't tell me you never miss a putt.........

Of course not. He's on the way to scratch don't you know

Not had a putting lesson yet but it's on the list for the next month or two after the swing is adjusted.

In my opinion it's one of those things people think they don't need a lesson on when actually it's the most important part of the game.

I suspect that I am one of these that makes you cringe Bob.... last time out - at a long par 5, drive split the fairway, 3 iron also straight as a die, wedge onto the green - and I STILL walked off with a 7!!!!! :D

I'd love to say that these are the exception rather than the norm, but alas these are all too common occurrences - it's got the point where my mates laugh & point and it's completely killing what could be half decent rounds (in that same round I opened with 3 consecutive pars before finally stumbling in to an 89) :o

thankfully pay-day is just around the corner, as putting lessons are a MUST for me

Hi,
Bob following on from the which grip do you use, a question about grip which would you recommend to use espically if we are using a Veasy, I use the over lapping which seems to work well with it but my brother uses left hand low and it dosen't seem to work as well for him.

I think that putting is the weakest part of my game by a long way. It's so bad that I had a putting lesson last year and then invested in a belly putter!!

For the first time in a very long time I played a lot of golf with some very good players and I watched how they go about putting. I realised that my set up, style and stroke were very similar to them. I'm slightly hunched over which I'm working on but I realised that putting (and, to a degree, every shot) is all about confidence. Before I've even taken the putter out of the bag I've talked myself into a three putt which is absolutely stupid as last year I holed some great pressure putts.

What does happen though is that I get incredibly tense when it comes to me putting. It got so bad that I used to freeze over putts less than 6 foot. I'm better now but the tension is still there.

I guess the only cure is practice - the kind of drills I've seen in the mag where you have to hole 20 3 footers before you can move on, etc but I just don't have the time.

So, for the time being, I'm a rubbish putter..

I have not had a putting lesson with a pro but my dad has come along to watch me putt and gave a few pointers that have really helped. My mother had earlier pointed out to me that although my dad was never a great golfer (played off 16-18 most of his time golfing) he was apparently a very good putter, so I asked him to help.
He uses a couple of techniques that have really helped me with my lag putting, including rolling the ball from my hand like a bowler on the practice green before using the putter, seems to give good feedback as to pace of green.

You can use the normal grip or left hand low with the V-Easy.
Just slide the hinge up or down the putter shaft until it feels comfortable.

I've had one and the pro changed my grip slightly (more in the life line) and got my eyes over the ball more. I've definatly seen an improvement but it could still be better.

I am hitting the ball really well at the moment after all my winter work. I have been told that if I want to move forward its now time to learn to chip and putt. I will be having both chipping and putting lessons with someone I trust very soon.
