Hello all,

Does anyone know of any publicly accessible putting greens near to Birmingham City Centre? I'm not ready to join a club yet but I want to be doing lots of putting practice...

Cheers,

Tom

Think this could be a tough one to find, some of the council courses are likely to have putting greens but not sure on standard as Lickey hills isn't great. The Harborne one wouldn't be too far from city centre.

The Belfry has a good practice area if you're willing to drive 15 mins up the motorway, otherwise you could contact the likes of Edgbaston (closest to city centre I'd guess) to see if you can just use their short game area but not the course.

Failing that, Cannon Hill park has a new crazy golf course which is quite good fun. Don't know if they'd let you use your own putter and ball.

To be honest mate, there isn't really much close to central Birmingham.

The best practice facilities that aren't situated on a golf course would be at Direct Golf, Becketts Farm, Solihull.

They have a big area of grass bays which are great for the summer months. In addition to this they have a nice putting green with some deep pot hole bunkers to practice in. There is a nice generous area around this big green where you can practice your chipping as well. Only problem is you would need a car to get there and you must become a member of the John Letters Golf Academy which I am, and its only £10 a year.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I'm going to check out Harbourne and maybe ask the question there and at Edgbaston. Can't lose anything by asking, right?

Ideally it'd be somewhere within about 15 minutes, which rules out the Belfry, and definitely Direct Golf. Of course, if I can't find anything that close I'll have to widen my search...

There's Church farm, the 9 holer in Harborne. Years ago it used to have a putting green and it's more of a municipal than harborne golf club, so you probably can just turn up there and have a put and no one would say anything.

Just go along to one of the municipals late in the day and practice putt on a real green for free - everyone else seems to, especially at the Lickeys!

I spent half my life there (on the putting green) between 1993 and 1997. I was a "member" as well, but that didn't really mean anything apart from the fact that they didn't chuck me off.
