Putting cross-handed.

Another week and another thread trying something different on the greens. Get a grip and set up and stick with it. Practice. It's not rocket science

Glad you found it funny. Yet again it adds nowt but carry on chortling

But this is my point. Surely chopping and changing every few weeks and not sticking with one or practicing regularly, is going to just add inconsistency in terms of pace and feel. Just my opinion

Im sorry Homer but you are out of order having a pop at Delc and Darren for exactly what you do with your chipping, one minute your conventional and one minute your linear and you chop and change whenever you struggle with one or the other, when do you ever stick with one and then practice, practice, practice.

And I've paid the price in terms of inconsistency so there's proof in the pudding that chopping and changing doesn't work. I've picked my short game methodology and plan to stick with it through thick and thin and just work on improving with that one method

I think most people realise chopping and changing doesn't work 99% of the time and you say you have now realised this yourself.

However you are the first to jump down peoples throat when someone doesn't agree with you just like you did on the Aimpoint issue, but your doing it yourself.

It just cant be right can it?

DOn't quite see the point. Was trying linear and conventional. Knew it wasn't working but couldn't convince myself which I preferred so the more I chopped my short game stagnated and documented that on my blog on a regular basis. Aimpoint is something completely different imo and a method that has had proven success on tour and I am happy works. Quite happy if people don't want to use it. It's those that write it off as mumbo jumbo without trying it I have a gripe with.

With Delc changing and with my chipping, it's a case of trying different methods. It's the not trying and then sticking to one that's the issue, certainly from my experiences. If Del wants to keep doing different things then fine, I just don't think he's going to find a degree of consistency.

You regularly mock, criticise and comment on my own approaches so you are hardly squeaky clean when it comes to posting when it suits

I changed over to cross-handed putting after having a bad day on the greens with the claw grip. It seemed to work OK on the practice green so I tried it on the course for several rounds. This confirmed my previous experience that it's good for direction, but not so good for distance. In another thread I bemoaned a very poor round which was partly down to too many 3 putts. I changed back to claw grip today and putted pretty well with it, so maybe it's the best grip for me. Watching the WGC Matchplay tournament on TV, I noticed that Phil Mickelson was using the claw grip again and seemed to be holing everything. Lee Westwood putting cross handed was missing everything!

Why don't you try both, claw for distance and left hand down for closer putts?

I did it the other way round for one round, as I didn't trust myself not to hit short putts too hard with the cross handed grip. The claw grip is also pretty good for direction btw. :)

Was reading a article in a golf mag. And it shows/tells you how Spieth grips the putter and makes the stroke was interesting.

However when I try it on my putter 34" it feels like its to small. I wonder what length his putter is. And also is it a standard length super stroke grip?

Just been watching the highlights on Mcilroys round, interesting to see that now he's gone cack handed that the putter head is now releasing and pointing left of target on the follow through, where as the last time I saw him putting conventional I could see he was going to miss to the right and he did.

I've just moved to cack handed and its worked a treat so far, best ever of 30 putts yday for a 7 under hcap and first time in the 70s.

I'm left handed and it gives me more confidence that my left hand is more dominant, my distance control has actually got better, I leave a lot less short now. Although I am prone to knocking a 6 footer 3 to 4 foot past.

I have worked a lot on putting over winter, including a routine and how to line up better, so can't Really say 100% the improvement is down to the grip, but I think it's helped.

It's 35" and an old 009 Scotty (not even a CircleT) that he's had since he was 15. Grip is actually comparatively thin for Superstrokes (the 1.0) but he may (or may not) also have a counterbalance weight installed!

My putter is only 33" long, so maybe that is the problem? :mmm:

Yeah was thinking it was a little longer.. I did use cack handed before a few years ago worked OK cant remember why I changed back. But after reading about his technique I might give it a try. My putting been poor so far this season tho it's likely down to not playing. But I guess maybe now is a good time to try something new.
