I don't collect scotty gear, but I have a small collection of his putters, ie: 2.
As per comments above about manufacturing costs, cheaper putters are cast, and have minimal finishing. This keeps them cheap.
More expensive putters are milled from solid blocks, and then finished by hand. This is a way more expensive manufacturing process, and hence the cost of the putter rises.
As for drivers, once the design has been finalised (and all the research and testing has been done), most of the parts are forged or cast, and then welded (or bonded)together. This is not as expensive as it sounds in terms of manufacturing. However, a lot of the money is in the shaft.
Oh yeah, Geronimo, if you are in the states, buy it out there and save some cash.
