Been using a nike method b1 07 putter for the past 8 month or so, feel like I struggle to line it up, always seem to miss putts slightly right or left of the hole! Been in ag trying some putters out, I seemed to put better with the bigger head putters like the oddyssy fang putter or the van line putter, but also putted pretty well with the taylormade monte carlo OS putter, I like the super stroke grips and the taylormade came with 1 already on, the oddysey ones didn't so I'm kinda swaying towards the taylormade but not entirely sure, seemed to putt the same with them all on the carpet test area. Any pointers or advice on which to choose?

Welcome to the forum.

There are quite a few threads on putters which have been discussed quite recently which would be worth reading through.

I personally use the Odyssey Fang putter and absolute love it. You can get them with super stroke grips already on them. Mine is the 35 inch with counter balance and it is so different to the Ping blade putter I used to have.

Putters are really down to personal choice and which one you like the look of and the feel. I feel that the carpet test area can be quite deceiving as they are straight putts the whole time and you just repeat the swing. I would go for the one you feel most confident with as that will give you confidence on the green.

Hope this helps

It's hard to say which is better as they are both great, just go with the one you like the look and feel of the most.

Welcome! The eternal search for YOUR putter. The good news is that once you find it, you will be set for years. Unil then you'll probably go through phases of loving it and hating it, changing and changing back.

I'm only 6 months in with my current putter and while I'm loving it that isn't long enough to tell whether it's in the bag for the long haul - yet. As above, you need to try them on a real green if possible, the grip type is important (I don't like fat round grips, mine is a slightly thicker pistol grip) and you have to feel confident looking down at the head shape.

Two other considerations - one is what the face is made of. Some people like a milled face, others an insert. It depends on whether you like a soft or more material contact and also the softness of the ball you use (soft inserts allow you to putt with a harder ball)

The other main one is whether you have an pronounced arc in-to-out-to-in putter stroke or are closer to straight back - straight through. I thought I was the latter, turns out I'm the former (had a free SAM session at American Golf last year).

And having said all that, the putter I'm using is a soft insert face balanced putter. I should be using a milled toe-balanced putter. So for some people it's all nonsense. Pick what you like the feel oof and think when youre standing over a makeable length putt - "I can make this". That's pretty much all that matters to me. Others will get custom fit in labs to get the perfect putter ofr them, more power to them it sounds like a great experience and I'm sure they love the result. Me, I kissed a few frogs and think I found a princess.

Only time will tell.

You just need to choose one with a good swingweight for you that feels comfortable, that does not mean spending £100+ necessarily on a Scotty either and believing all the marketing hype.

Seriously it's not the putter, it's the man/woman putting.

Suggest you study some of the greats, reduce as many moving parts as you can to your action, head still, rock the shoulders and commit.

A putting mirror is a good practice aid to get your positions right at the outset , then practice practice. 6 balls round the hole from 3, 4 and 5 feet is a great drill, miss one and start again. makes you focus!

Welcome to the forum. Putters are very personal. Speak to a pro at your club, range or in the AG store and see what they recommend for your stroke. I was brought up on the Anser bladed type putters and still hanker to be able to use them but the half mallet #9 I use gives me more stability.

Echoing people here, but go with the one that feels and looks right. If you can try and get on a SAM putting dooberry, I found it was eye opening - as I was hitting my putts more on the toe-end side of things. Also it suggested that with my stroke to go with a toe hang blade, and I've always preferred the look over a blade than mallets.

I have the same putter and similar problems with it. Issue for me was missing middle of the club both way hill and toe, I'm trying now when set up to the ball from my perspective address the ball more from the hill side at least it feels like it for me, after few days noticing big improvement finding middle of the club and more better putts

I got custom fit for a putter and it was the best thing I ever did. I am 6ft 5in so straight away he said you need a 38in putter and most are 34.5in as standard. Toe up, toe down etc all tested and settled on a Scotty Cameron futura its been superb. Handicap has gone from 17-13 in two months. I have gone from from 42 putts down to sub 35 every round. 43% of my total shots are with the putter so you have to get it right.

I would forget about brand/style etc and wait until the fitting you get to try them all and he will advise accordingly what is best. Good luck
